I'm not saying they were good remakes, I hated how they felt the need to remove features added in Emerald but as their own game, they weren't flawed. The pacing and difficulty were better than X and Y and they had far more post-game and things to do.

GS were the best sequels to this day, HGSS were even better, but I'm giving props to the originals.
Tons of new pokemon, awesome new region, features, etc, and when you beat the game, it's only half over. Compared to ORAS and XY which had nice, but extremely short post game stories.
That's the problem I've had lately with the newer games. There's not much to do after you beat the story except get your ass handed to you online.
