Generally it is the same, but I think Signature refers to your ace in the hole, while parter is something akin to Ash and Pikachu, a Pokemon that is with you outside of its ball.

are good examples. Partner pokemon is a similar concept to "shouldermon", though not necessarily as constrained.

A pokemon you include on a team despite not necessarily being viable. Whereas signature pokemon is sort of the opposite (think Miltank or Starmie)

Poison team looks pretty decent. Get some speed passed to Nidoking from Scolipede, you'd be laughing. Plus it covers Psychic and Ground quite well.

At badge 3, Bidoof gains Moody
The Dunsparce has Serene Grace and Body Slam+Ancient Power
Chansey has Minimize and Softboiled from the get go.
When Raticate returns it has Swords Dance.
When Spinda is introduced it uses Teeter Dance and Hypnosis.
Ursaring has Belly Drum.
Exploud is a Boomburst user.
Lickilicky will abuse Attract if it is given a chance.

The idea would be to teach the player about abusing status conditions and stat boosts.
