Pick Blaziken at the beginning because it's OP. Picking Treecko will make your second rival fight way too hard whereas Combusken can do really well.

Tropius and Gyarados are the two HM slaves you should use.

So you've got your starter, tropius, and gyarados.

Other good picks can be Ralts (for eventual gardevoir) if it's Modest. Flygon is good as noted above. Basically all you need.

in breeding, everything i've seen says that moves the baby would learn at a higher level can overwrite the moves the baby would knowat level five. but i breed a male ralts:
1.destiny bond
2.psychic
3.hypnosis
4.dream eater

and a female ralts:
1.calm mind
2.psychic
3.hypnosis
4.dream eater

and i get this:
1.growl
2.destiny bond
3.psychic
4.hypnosis

does anyone know why growl seems to overwrite dream eater, even thouh both parents know it?

Dark is all special in Emerald. It hurts Mightyena and Absol a lot. Everything else should be fine.
