Anyone think its weird that most of these Mega's never appeared in the actual anime episodes? Like the writers always make sure to debut each new pokemon of a gen in an episode before a saga ends, but they didn't treat Mega's the same as new pokemon debuts.

I feel like so many Mega's never got any proper showcasing in the anime at all.

Currently on ep 37 and the intro has all these previews from the XY movie, which brings up the question: Should I watch the movie after I finish the series or does the movie follow up after a certain episode?

Koga wasn't much of a battle. The first one is just some trading of hits until Team Rocket butt in, and the second is a half minute long OHKO. Even when that episode was new, I thought that was lame.

Its generally interesting the Gym battles got better with every passing gen.

Johto had more proper Gym battles than Kanto did. Hoenn's Gym battles on average were better than Johto's. Sinnoh's were where the Gyms started to get really good. BW's were a mixed bag. And then XY's are the best.

Indeed, vs LT Surge was incredibly good for its time. Good animation (again, for its time), great script with some battle strategy, and both LT Surge and his Raichu had some actual interesting personality going on. The battle felt intense as fuck, especially once Pikachu started to turn things around. One of the few OS battles that had me on the edge of my seat.

Yeah, the writers change him from "annoyingly skilled jerk" to "smug buttmonkey with the wrong idea about Pokemon training" a bit over half a year into the series. I have a feeling they realized how incredibly disliked he was from day 1 and decided to take him in a different direction than originally intended.

Interesting fact: Tomioka wrote the most recent episode of Dragonball Super, the one with Future Trunks and the new evil Goku villain. It was a fantastic episode and there were two deaths in the episode.
