here's the non shiny version.
>>

>>26676795
People are always bitching about the non-dithered augmentation effects Game Freak used for their Gen 5 sprites, but there's a reason.

These Greninja sprites (and most deviantart spriters) are fucking abysmal. The movement is jerky as hell and it looks extremely amateur.
>>
>>26676893
The way the tongue scarf moves is horrible. I can't believe whoever came up with that and left it like this thought it was okay.
>>
>>26676909
>>26676893
H-how should I fix it?
>>
>>26676909
The tongue scarf itself is horrible, so it can't be helped.
>>
>>26676920
I don't know if Gen V sprites were allowed to have multiple frames, but if they can't, you're going to have to chunk it up into sections and have each section move individually but fluidly is the way I'd do it. The sprite itself is pretty decent imo but the scarf is so bad, why did you think that was presentable? I've never done animations like these when I was big into spriting, I only did individual frames so I don't know exactly how to do it like how BW did.

No, it can be helped. A lot. Pic related handles the scarf better, but still the same issue: It's jerky and bland and static as fuck.

What are you talking about? The average Gen V sprite has 40 to 60 frames.

>>
>>26676997
Doing it like Therian Thundurus's tail would be perfect.
>>
>>26676975
This one is actually done pretty well. I'm seeing pseudo non-dithered animation here. It could be better, but the best of this bunch so far.

>>26676983
Colors are weird and it's really, really lopsided (legs, ears, arms). The hard black outlines on the arms that kind of fade at the shoulders and the soft outline on the ears and head don't look so great.

>>26676995
You really need to invest time into more frames to make your sprites look less jerky.

>>26676997
That Thundurus sprite has a long more attention to detail and it uses stretched and skewed pieces in its animation with no dithering which really makes it look smother and more detailed.

>>26677004
>>26677016
Jesus, no fluidity at all.

This one is animated somewhat well, but the design is more bland than Pikachu.
>>26677004
This one I like. It's simple, but not bland. Animation is better than the rest.

The other fakemon are shit and not worth recognition.

I actually went back and looked at some of the few things I had saved on Photobucket and man I was a lot worse back when I feel like I remember I used to be. The last thing I tried working on and was almost proud of I don't even have the final version of saved because it was back when I started to stop using that method to upload stuff.

Just saw that Accelgor's scarf definitely has multiple frames. You could pretty much just draw 3 or 4 different tongues and past them together like you would animate most any other sprite.

You're a nice person, Max.

Anyway, finished this motherfucker.
https://soundcloud.com/mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm-1/humilau-city-gbc-8-bit
http://pastebin.com/SVaJ88t8

Listening to it as a whole, it doesn't really feel consistent due to me choosing different parts of the song. Each section of the song I think sounds alright individually but as a whole there's like a shift in tone not in the original when I swap parts.

I'm not going to dwell on it though, I think it turned out better than my initial estimates when I first started looking at the song and realized how hard it was to simplify it to 8-bit.

And with that I finished my backlog of suggested songs except the DOGARS theme but I can't fucking find the MIDI of that in the BW2 ROM no matter how many times I look so fuck it I'm not doing that one it would lose charm by not having the voices anyway. I have a couple songs I want to do but are there any new suggestions for songs to cover in Crystal's engine before that? No Sinnoh, I like Sinnoh but I'd rather let Frogg do his own thing since he wants to port every Sinnoh theme, two different covers of a song isn't necessarily bad but if I can do something unique that won't overlap that's a better use of my time.
>>
>>26677867
Man, you just keep getting better at this.
Dogars Midi ripped from rom:
http://expirebox.com/download/924225f70817fd9bc80ba435a52f491e.html

It was under /SEQ_BGM_POISONE_GYM_00
>>
>>26677972
Holy shit you're a lifesaver Max, I just used a generic ripping tool for the MIDIs from the DS games, and all the filenames are just hex numbers so I have to look through a ton to find what I want. Diamond and Black 1 are both somewhat consistent in their ordering, towns near towns, caves near caves, etc., so I can usually find what I want from those but BW2 seems to be all over the place. Totally going to do DOGARS now.
