It's less ugly once you realize the orange thing in the middle of it's face isn't a nose.If it didn't have the brown casing around it's face, it would be smooth. The brown just gives the impression of angry faces

The problem with fakemon is that they are usually wish fulfilling, special snowflake dual types, that are only based on a single concept that's blatantly obvious.
Like you said, most aren't clever.
Also, they focus too much on making the design look appealing, GF balances both and does some ugly designs that are also good conceptually.

It's centered around magnetics and a compass. The nose on a Nosepass was always representitive of the needle on a compass that always faced north. Probopass just had it get larger as well as added the additional 3 little sattelites to represent all four directions. Then there's the metal shavings to pull off a silly mustache that brings it into a way unexpected and clever reference.
