The Golden Age was definitely during Gen I-II. That's not even bias toward those games or a slight against the recent ones; the series has never received as much hype, coverage, and general media attention as it did back then, and the internet wasn't even that big at the time.

The golden age was Pokemania, 1998-2000. I don't know if it lasted the full time overseas, but it would be included if so.

Honestly depends on how you look at it.

I, personally, would say Gen 2 and the early 2000s were the golden age of the franchise, especially in the west.

Gen 5 brought a fuck ton of new fans to the series, the internet was flooded with fan-art and fan creations and it really sparked a resurgence in the Pokémon "fan community", which might have also been because of the building hype during and after the release of HGSS.

I have a friend who was young during the pokemania, actually went and saw the pokemon movie in theaters and had pokemon poptarts at his house. He reeeally like BW says its his 2nd favorite gen after gen 2. hes 22. I dont think you need to be underaged to like unova. Yea it was linear as FUCK but at least it was linear with an interesting story and some cool pokemon.
