I never felt bad for N when I first played the game, right up until the point where you beat him in the castle and his father goes off on him. Imagine one of the people you respect/trust the most telling you that you were never anything but a pawn and an instrument to be used, and now that you've been defeated you're an utterly useless, broken tool. If the game was a little more realistic, N would be curled up in the fetal position at that point, slowly rocking back and forth in a pool of his own filth.

If you hadn't been there, Ghetsis would have had his Pokemon tear N's party apart and then kill him afterward. N pretty much had his whole world crushed in a new seconds, and now has to live with the fact the person he loved and admired was going to kill him.

Was he supposed to be a Zoarark? That's what I got from the little postgame thing in BW2

Well, he only had communication with pokemon that had been abandoned, thus his confusion upon hearing a pokemon say they love their trainer.

He was manipulated by his foster father his entire life, lied to in order to take advantage of his ability to hear the thoughts of Pokemon, and lead to believe through false pretense that ALL other humans were abusing the Pokemon they caught. It makes sense he would be strange or even seem fucked up to some degree given the life he had.

I mean N does own a Zoroark, its highly possible it was the Zorua he lived with before being adopted by Ghetsis.

He was raised in a very specific way so ghetsis could manipulate him, and it worked, except it made N open minded and meeting you causes him to see things better with your encounters

there are some theories that N is the Zoroark and he is just copying a young Ghetsis...
