No, Ash lived up to and surpassed the image she built of him from camp.

If the event was erased she wouldn't recognize him on TV and be inspired to adventure in the first place. She would continue being a sheltered recluse, moreso because the camp event would turn into a traumatic experience without little Ash. If anything he's the closest thing to a legit writer the anime has ever had. You can tell he wants Pokemon to be a regular anime series but he's restricted by the higher ups who control advertising and the formula of the series.

Ash really did go the majority of XY with only 5 pokemon since Goodra was gone for most of it. Its almost like they purposely did the exact opposite of BW.

Also much like AG, XY is the only other saga Ash only captured 5 pokemon. In Johto and DP he got 6 captures because he got Phanpy and Gible late.
