Anyone else doing a random starter run, Nuzlocke style? I like Litten's design the best and Rowlet is a qt, but I think Popplio has the best potential for cool looking evolutions.

This might be the first generation to break me off my always-water stance. It was always clear as water for me to start with aqua types. Normally my second play throughs are when I use Fire/Grass

But Litten is pulling me and Rowlet isn't helping. Their evos will ultimately decide it but right now... Litten. Fuck being edgy. I just like Catmon.

until gen6, fire was the "optimum" choice since fire types were scarce and not that good (special mention to dppt for the most ridiculous dex ever)

Same OP. But here's the thing: Rowlet is way more economical for story mode.

Fire covers grass, bug and ice. Flying also covers grass and bug, and ice is weak to everything anyway, especially that fighting type that you should have in your party. And it's pretty uncommon in story mode, in the tropics no less.
On top of that, grass covers rock, ground and water, including those millions of surfmons you'll deal with in this tropical region. And cavemons, of course. So Rowlet covers tons of bases.
You also get a Fly user immediately so your party is free for other things.

Litten is cute and I'm seriously considering GTSing two starters, but if I had to pick Rowlet is the clear winner. And you just fucking know that super cute design is a front for a cunt destroyer evo.
