Technically we haven't had a third game since Platinum, B2W2 being the games that broke the pattern. A Z was completely expected with Gen 6, Masuda himself saying around the time that ORAS was revealed that he doesn't want the next games in the series to be something fans can expect, he wants them to be a surprise. Everyone expected a Z version with Gen 6, we skipped straight to Gen 7 instead. Now its different, people are actually not expecting a third version, which means GameFreak could easily surprise us and bring us an Eclipse version to say fuck you to any preconceived patterns. They work in mysterious ways at times, we need to remember that.

Red and Blue/Green were released in 1996.

Yellow followed in 1998.

Gold and Silver were released in 1999.

Crystal followed in 2001.

Ruby and Sapphire were released in 2002.

Emerald followed in 2005.

Diamond and Pearl were released in 2006.

Platinum followed in 2009.

This was 13 years of an ESTABLISHED cycle of repitition which GF themselves had established.

The only reason BW2 exist and broke said cycle is some retard in development pitched the idea of creating two versions instead of one, leading to a poor attempt at a cashgrab.

They could've literally created a single third version with all the content and provided decisions which would impact which of Kyurem's formes you would get, but instead we got 2 games instead of a single third. Therefore Kyurem will always be an incomplete abomination because it's BW Pokedex entry has been retconned out of existence.

That's not to say they weren't good games, but the reality stands.

There was an established cycle of repetition for more than 2 gens you imbecile.

We're talking the cycle that has always been existent as of Gen 2 until Gen 5 broke said cycle. That cycle is a pair of games are released which after a while, a SINGLE "perfected" version of said games is released.

Remakes are not included in this time line because there was no established cycle for them due to it being at the discrepancy of Nintendo.

It's because Gen V didn't move to the 3DS only, and stayed a DS game.

The full cycle was:
2 main generation games
1 Sequel game
Move to new generation hardware


Starting in Gen 3, they added remakes after the sequel to pad out until the next generation of hardware. But they completed both the sequel and the remakes in gen four, and still were on the same hardware when gen five came out. now gen six and seven are on the same hardware too, but the next gen hardware is by all accounts coming in a year, which means we might not even see gen seven remakes.

gen 1 (gameboy), gen 2 (gameboy color), gen 3 & remakes of gen 1 (gameboy advanced), gen 4 & remakes of gen 2 (DS), gen 5 and no remakes (DS again), gen 6 no 3rd game and gen 3 remakes (3DS). Gen 7 now comes at the end of the new 3DS lifecycle, so its not even a given we'll even see either a sequel or remakes of gen 4 as gen 7 games.

Platinum and Emerald were the best games GF has ever created for the Pokemon series. B/W come in a close top tier.

Every game afterward has been a decline. They can't seem to do any better. The last good remakes were FR/LG. HG/SS didn't even include the Sevii Islands. I know it's basically a remake of G/S/C, but there are things they decide not to add for some odd reason.

ORAS was a complete remake of R/S with no Emerald elements at all.
