Join us in IRC at [ #vpwritethread on irc.rizon.net ] to discuss your fics, hang out and chat, and be frightened by the regulars!

Previous Thread: >>26444506

>Can I post NSFW fics?
Absolutely! There are no rules against NSFW text links.

>How should I post my fics?
Please, for the convenience of everyone involved, link to a host like Fanfiction.net, Pastebin or Google Docs rather than dumping your fics in text posts. This not only keeps the thread tidy (and keeps you from getting an infraction for spam), but it also provides a more permanent place to store your work.

>Can I add a fic I wrote to the catalog?
Sure! Check the catalog for the submission link. In there, you can find a link to a Google Form - fill out all the necessary information and it will be submitted for review automatically. Technology is incredible!

We're also looking to collect ideas for fanfics as a resource for stumped writers. Feel free to throw an idea out there; someone may choose to use it themselves!

>>
I'd give the Suicune lewds 3-4 days

>TOTT
I don't got time for idle worldbuilding in worlds I don't have. I have shitty fanfiction to make that'll do that for me.
>>
>ToTT
I don't think it's a competition. Comparing my notes with others is nice, but I'm hardly competitive about it. More than anything I use others' entries as a second opinion to see what about their 'verse they wrote about and to give myself inspiration. I'm going for a little of column A, a little of column C. It's been a blast so far, and it's also really good writing practice (especially since I've been out of the game for a while). Some of the prompts don't quite fit the PMD world I'm developing, but I take that as a challenge rather than as a deterrent; I can find SOMETHING suitable to nearly every suggested topic.

If anyone's still unaware, here's a link: http://worldbuildingjune.tumblr.com/

I know >tumblr, but it's just a convenient place to organize it all. I use one to post my entries, as well.
>>
>>26589399
>>26592507
>ToTT
I've never heard of WBJ being a competition. Then again, if we want to compete we can always compete.

I myself am not interested in competing, thanks. I'm more interested in giving and receiving feedback from other people. Also fun, maybe, if it works. And exposure. Exposure is always good.

Today I have to tackle geography and races. At least races allows for some practical cop outs.

Reminder for those who don't want to bork their works in writing, we have pokédics for everyone!

They are open for everyone to use, it has a lot to swallow from Pokémon names to item names and franchise-specific terms. Right now it's English only but when I stop being lazy we'll be able to try the dics with Spanish, French and hopefully German tongues.

Recommending Soft Reset. Pretty good read so far, link here:
https://www.fanfiction.net/s/11019737/1/Soft-Reset

Basically, the protag is a guy that lives in a world with Pokemon, but instead of actually training Pokemon, he spent all his time playing the video games and TCG. Then ends up rasing actual Pokemon and tries to apply game mechanics to real life.

How populair do good fanfics get? Like, how many people will read it? I imagine it's a very niche thing and people mostly write for themselves?

Ultimately, its a matter of audience, and what you consider good. My old account was reasonably accomplished as far as views and readerbase is concerned, but I still would only consider it mildly popular, because some fics have six digit view counts.

After making a new account and switching to writing about different IPs, you have to build a new audience and attempt to carve a niche out for yourself at the same time.

So I'm less successful this time around, but I'm also writing much more for myself, whereas I used to write at least partly for my readers (and not in a good way.)

I don't update those that frequently anymore though since I haven't really had the inspiration to continue most of them for quite a while now sadly enough.

Smut-anon here, finished writing the next scene with Misty just a while ago and I just have to write the ending now.

I decided to finish this version despite the fact that most people didn't seem to like Misty's immediate forceful personality change.

In the end though I found the new persona to be easier to write since I haven't watched the anime for quite a while and would probably miss some important details of her character if I attempted to write an accurate representation of her.

Oh no need to worry, I don't plan on making the personality change my go-to plot device or anything, I'm just experimenting with it and watching how people react to it for now.

I might do the game version of Misty as well at some point but after thinking about it I've decided that I'll do it in a separate chapter all together
possibly in one with a threesome/foursome.
Its all just ideas floating in the stormy sea that is my creative mind at this point.

I'm running out of dick/vag euphemisms to use while writing smut, and "manhood"/"womanhood" is just cringe. The sample applies to "member" although I have to resort to that from time to time. You guys got any good, rare ones?
>>
>>26600179
Nope, but people will probably not care if you use the same word a few times considering they're reading a smut.
>>
>>26600195
A few times is fine, but it starts to get repetitive quick. And writing smut isn't an excuse to write badly.
>>
>>26600179
Off the top of my head, and going for quantity over quality

Male: organ, shaft, piece, appendage, limb, vessel, head, probe, barrel.

Female: walls, halls, roof, channel, warmth, depths, core, folds, mouth.

Some of them are pretty flowery and *bleh*, others are pretty circumstantial, and maybe I managed to name only things you already had, but whatever. Maybe some will work.

You can also occasionally work around needing to address those bits of anatomy directly by giving out other sensory input around them. Sometimes a vague, general term with some good sensory information can really help with immersion, if required.

It is one of the unique challenges of writing material like this. You learn your whole life that over-repetition is bad, but need to do so here and do it well to get the detail required for an engrossing fic. It is actually surprisingly effective exercise for a writer or poet.

It's been almost 7 years since I regularly read fanfictions, but this is actually intriguing me to start reading again.

I remember reading a lot on that one Cave of Dragonflies website. And another that always stood out to me was this one I found on fanfiction.net where a bunch of rich kids were on a reality TV show where they raised their first Pokemon on an island. I always loved reality TV premises when I was younger. I wonder if there's any modern fics doing similar things.

Also, do any of you have any good experiences doing long writing roleplays? I've always preferred that over fanfics for Pokemon because I love the RNG aspect of your character's available Pokemon choices, but with the state of most forums these days it feels like the only way I'll be able to get my creativity flowing again is by solo writing fanfics.
>>
>>26605615
>Also, do any of you have any good experiences doing long writing roleplays?
Since late 2011 and counting, though technically I'm there for a cameo.

Mostly it depends on what kind of RPing are you looking for, if it is more "tabletop set" or more a "ITT: /vp/ in a Pokémon world" kind of thing, and of course on what kind of community you end up in. But there is a certain value to RPing that you won't be able to get with any kind of solo experience, no matter how good it is.
>>
>>26605615
I've got a friend that used to write hundreds of thousands of words worth of RP in a single arc with one other guy, but I don't think he has the time to do any of that anymore. He's also a fag.

I've heard some people in the past point out the flaws in Pedestal. In particular, what are the flaws of how the Pokemom are characterized? One individual many months ago said that they were "extensions of the MC", but I'm not sure what that means. My motivation pretty much disappeared after realizing nobody wants to see me or anything associated with me, and perhaps they still don't want to. And I know exactly why and regret it.

Regardless, I tried giving the Froslass story some rewriting occasionally (read: completely wipe most of it and restart), but I'm not feeling very confident about it.
Then there was the Ledian story as well, but not sure what people thought of that.

Maybe I need to completely ignore stories from my past time here for now and try something different. I'm thinking I need to do writing exercises through simpler ideas. Anything too big blows up in my face as has been proven.

>Prologue
This isn't a prologue, it's a description blurb.

>“It’s time! The day I get my first Badge!” The boy declared to the world. He had dreamed of the day he’d leave his small village, and now that the day had arrived he stood proud with his partner.
Telling, passive, characters we can't yet visualize.

>(Missing commas and typos, too many to list.)
Proof-reading is vital.

>as she was once a gym leader herself she knew there was no stopping him
How does being a gym leader make her better at predicting his behavior than being his mother does?

>She seemed prepared to keep him there
You said she knew she couldn't stop him.

>Critical capture! The shiny Espur was his. He couldn’t believe his luck
Nor I. The odds are what, 6,000,000 to 1?

>(All caps and multiple bangs.)
She'd better have a sore throat after all this screaming.

>with one of these you can bypass the gold league, the badge requirement, all of it and go straight to the platinum league.
Then why are you here, Lady? Also, let's challenge the heavyweight boxing champ without any fore training while we're at it.

>Sid couldn’t pass up such a tempting offer
Nobody ever offers counterfeit tickets, right?

>began to glow lightly. Gallade attacks … dodges every strike
Tense shift from past to present.

>she throws a full restore on the ground … “Go home scrub.”
Is the med for Pran or for Sid to treat that wicked burn?

Your weakness is largely the plot mechanics you choose. Between Shiny Espurr and Platinum Ticket, you burn a lot of suspension of disbelief unnecessarily.

The battle started descriptive but became a summary in the middle; this ruins the pacing.

This chapter's plot arc is cut off at the 70% mark after an abbreviated beginning. You need to complete the climax—does Sid treat Pran now or later?—and offer a denouement: Go home as told, to a center, to a training montage to prepare for a rematch?

You have a framework, but you must add meat to these bones.

Alright discussion time.

The time has come. Your team of Pokémon have chased a Weedle across the forest, evading random useless mons like Pikachu or the once-in-a-blue-moon wandering Arcanine, and eventually beaten her senseless.

As you catch up with your team and the battle, you stand a distance behind your team, produce your Premier Ball, ready your arm, toss...

And land it perfectly on the Weedle's face, sucking the creature within.

Land it.

Perfectly.

Every time.

How good is human children's aim in the Pokémon world? How would you justify it? Are humans secretly ninjas? Cyborgs? Or do you ignore it? If children human aim is that good, what are the implications for sports like baseball or volleyball?
>>
>>26630241
in gen I I remember missing pokeballs was a thing. Future gens kinda got rid of that mechanic.

It's probably a pokeball mechanic moreso than human aim, where once thrown, said pokeball can home onto a targeted Pokemon (hopefully a wild one).

It's pretty darn easy to ignore though.

You know that makes some sense, considering Pokéballs would need some sort of self-propulsion mechanism that would also help explain why Pokéballs 'bounce' back to the Trainer upon release.

Also... Mewtwo's Pokéballs can hover, or even fly, not to mention chase targets.

Presumably your ISO standard issue Pokéball for commoneer use are not first class enough to hover and thus are as subject to gravity as a random donut.

Not usually one to get too deep into my own headcanon, but since you asked for discussion here it goes.

Part 1

Fields of attraction relate pokeballs to pokemon since pokeballs actually are made by culling a certain type of pokemon created to manipulate matter. Once it is correctly processed, a pokeball bears relation to all pokemon on a molecular level through genetic datasets. The pokemon which the the pokeball is made from processing acts as a gravitational singularity in this regard. The physical location of the pokemon "captured" is then displaced by an acceleration of its material constitution rushing in toward the core of the ball, approaching the speed of light known as the "return" which converts the physical particles into pure energy. This energy remains in constant motion through the use of a "center" which maintains a wobbling rotation pattern within the ball allowing for time to pass extraordinary quickly inside. Taking a pokeball to a poke center allows for this process to be further amplified by use of a particle beam and "heal" the creature through artificially created time manipulation. Of course, from the perspective of the pokemon, minimal time has passed since it was sent into the ether - its body and brain both turned into raw energy by the pokeball's attractive tidal force. In truly rare circumstances a "reset" can be attempted to save a dying pokemon, but it always loses its memories in the process raising a number of philosophical questions surrounding consciousness.
>>
>>26630241
>>26630937

Part 2

And even though the balls act as kerr black holes they only work on matter pokemon are comprised of due to the construction of the pokeball being contingent on a particular pokemon relating to all pokemon. So (un)fortunately trainers can't just lob small black holes at each other in order to prove a point. The creature's code upon entering the attraction field of the pokeball overwrites the pokeball's preset dataset - meaning usually one ball per mon. Devon Corp. has been working on a way to utilize multiple pokeballs in order to transport pokemon across massive distances instantaneously without using the PC data transfer system. The results of their testing: classified as always.

To answer your query: even a poorly thrown ball can capture at a reasonable distance related to the field amplifier on the pokeball's circuit board. This doubles as a plot device since ghost types can indeed be missed due in no small part to their lack of an entirely corporeal form. I have a lot more written on the subject but I think this will suffice for now.

TL;DR Magic needs to be explained by pseudo-science.

>Once it is correctly processed, a pokeball bears relation to all pokemon on a molecular level through genetic datasets.

The implication there is that all Pokémon are defined by a genetic dataset (not necessarily a common one). How does this interact with eg.: inorganic Pokémon, or artificial construct Pokémon like the Regis and Castform?

Also since you mention the device only making distinction of Pokémon via datasets, does it mean it is perfectly possible for a Pokébal to catch and dematerialize a human provided it is given an adequate genetic dataset?

What are the implications of the ability to dematerialize and "reset" a creature, Pokémon or not, on aspects such as consciousness and individuality?

>The implication there is that all Pokémon are defined by a genetic dataset (not necessarily a common one). How does this interact with eg.: inorganic Pokémon, or artificial construct Pokémon like the Regis and Castform?

If you are referring to organic versus synthetic species, both share a common domain of molecular data which is accessed by use of the transform function of the pokeball. A ditto can become a matching dataset for either a regi or a weedle.

>Also since you mention the device only making distinction of Pokémon via datasets, does it mean it is perfectly possible for a Pokébal to catch and dematerialize a human provided it is given an adequate genetic dataset?

In theory it would be possible to do with an accurate enough genetic datasets of the target in question. Problem is: compared to respective species of pokemon, the human species have much more genetic diversity. Human testing results in rather grotesque abominations unfortunately since mismatches in the individual's code are all too common even if a particular subject's DNA is carefully replicated. Also humans grow slowly over time (no spontaneous evolution) which makes the shock of energy transformation very often fatal.

>What are the implications of the ability to dematerialize and "reset" a creature, Pokémon or not, on aspects such as consciousness and individuality?

Too many to enumerate in an online post. I would suggest an introductory reading of "Matter and Consciousness" by Paul Churchland if the subject intrigues you.

Humans all share most of their own genome though, with an average of 99.5% of any two human's genomes being similar. Is the 0.5% variation on average so significant as to prevent the use of a ball on them? Doesn't this imply an incredibly narrow genetic diversity among any given species of 'Mon, and if it does, how narrow, and how is this not impacting their viability in nature?

>Is the 0.5% variation on average so significant as to prevent the use of a ball on them? Doesn't this imply an incredibly narrow genetic diversity among any given species of 'Mon, and if it does, how narrow, and how is this not impacting their viability in nature?

When we're talking about aggregate genetic material, 0.5% variation is a huge number. Even a marginal error in exact sequencing would prove disastrous. Doesn't even have to be an essential piece of data to botch up the whole entire sequence.

Given the way pokemon evolve I would certainly argue that they have a more consistent composition of genetic standards - baselines, really. If not then over time they would likely evolve into many other forms besides their conventional stages. The resilience of these particular forms and paths speak to their overall lower level of intra-species diversity. Compared to all the animal kingdom's diversity mere natures and IVs would play only a tiny role in the creature's overall species-dataset. Because of that, a pokemon can be saved and reassessed easily - comparatively speaking.

In my theory, a pokeball would be circumventing this problem by creating a perfect replica of the captured creature, atom for atom by use of a ditto. This internal replica is the baseline which will function as the saved data for the creature in question. Each time you recall the creature, a new overwriting dataset is established. As far as I'm aware a ditto cannot /completely/ replicate a human since they are from totally different kingdoms. Then again the genome of a particular person could be mapped and perhaps used to reconstruct without a ditto datasave. However even if you can reconstruct the human back together the question then becomes: what happens to the original's consciousness and sense of self after entering a state of warping spacetime?

Sorry friends, I'm going to slow down with these long posts sent from my phone. Really need to get back to work.

Basically, my plan is to have a character I'm writing about keep a Porygon Z in a watch a friend of his will make for him. The watch will function as a portable PC and stuff like that. Where my friend and I disagree is I'd like the Porygon to be able to use moves from the watch, but have them affect the wearer. Something that I definitely want to do is Barrier to block gunshots or something like that.
>>
>>26634250
Hmm...it sounds interesting, but I'd rather not have the character be in total control of what the watch does, considering that a living Porygon Z is inside, obviously causing glitches and whatnot, or doing something else entirely. Wouldn't want ot make him overly reliant on the thing now, rigt?

I imagine that Pokeballs might have some level of technology inside though, maybe not enough to seek from great distance, but for them to be attracted to Pokemon when thrown in their direction, like a very weak magnet pull
>>
People seem to be imagining some pretty high tech ideas for pokeballs. I usually go with the assumption that throwing skills are greatly exaggerated and people mostly use them on pacified pokemon from a much smaller distance.
>>
>>26630241
What in the world are you on about? If you're a bad enough shot, it's certainly possible to miss a Pokémon. However, all Poke Balls have scanning systems that detect all Pokémon around it in about a three-color radius. Captured Pokémon are tagged and ignored, but when the Ball is activated, it will activate its capture system targeting the first uncaptured Pokémon in range. It's even got a little gyroscope in the back to stabilize itself. The "bounceback" function comes from the air displaced by the sent-out Pokémon, which explains why a freshly used Ball doesn't return. When a Pokémon is returned, the Ball is usually kept in the user's hand. Some people can give a thrown ball a backspin to bounce it back towards them, but they're the exception, not the rule.

If I posted the frame story / plot for a RP I'm starting up here, could y'all critique it?

Right now the main thing I'm struggling with is coming up with a conflict the characters can face / an overall antagonist. I don't really want to have one to avoid the onslaught of edgy RPers that often accompanies Pokemon stories with a villain, but I'm also scared it will be too boring if the frame story / plot is just "go out and catch Pokemon!!!".
>>
>>26662439
there used to be an OC trainer thread for such a occasion, but it seems like the threads have stopped for now. Either way, if it is really detailed/posting the story, keep it in the pastebin.

If you need motivation/conflict the MCs can face you do have options outside of 'catch em all and be the champion' as portrayed in the games and anime.
Pokemon related, they could be on the pursue for one evasive mon in particular, like how that one guy was crazy over hunting suicune. There may be a reason for their search which can be revealed over time (need X's help to heal Y for instance). Alternatively they could be out to make a profit. After all, defeating trainers means a lot of money in the games. Think of any motivation and something to get in said motivation's way and you should be fine.
>>
>>26662439
An antagonist is anything that opposes your protagonist's goals. That could be some other trainer trying to catch the same pokemon, laws and regulations preventing your character from doing it legally, weather making it difficult, etc.

I don't know how an RP typically goes, but I assume two people write for their own characters? If so, maybe just give those character have opposing goals. Ex. There's a rumor about a rare pokemon showing up in a nearby location and both trainers want to catch it, so they're naturally at odds with one another while still being protagonists.
>>
>>26662439
This has probably been done already somewhere but what if there's a group of people who are mercilessly hunting down rare Pokemon and the protagonists get in their way because they want to protect their village/home from being invaded and burned to the ground after they've extracted all of the rare mons from that location. You could call them "The Snatchers" or something.

But if this is some kind of pmd RP I dunno. Some kind of save the world bullshit?
>>
>>26663164
Not the guy you're responding to, but:
>people who are mercilessly hunting down rare Pokemon
Hunting in what sense? Is it different from kids running out and chucking balls at the pokemon? If it's literal hunting, then does it make sense for that to be illegal? If so, what do people eat? Is what they're doing actually more merciless than the typical "beat them until they can't resist capture" usually seen in the series?

>invaded and burned to the ground
Why would they do that if their goal is getting pokemon? Poaching is ridiculously far from razing a town on the scale of crime severity.
>>
>>26662439
In RP in general, the most important thing to keep in mind is that everything will go off the rails. Depending on whether you're going towards more traditional narratives or full on wacky 4chan quests, this will mean differing kinds and degrees of swerves, but the principle is true. It can be hard to predict what people will latch onto and want to focus on.

You'll need to keep an open mind. There should be a seed for them to start with, your basic "here's what you know, what you've been brought here to do, you're starting situation." But beyond that it depends on how enterprising your players are. With, I will is assume this is, text only, free form RP you don't have to worry about things like working stuff for places and shit you didn't expect or having it all go to waste if they ignore it.

In terms of the story and setting itself, if you're worried about an initial villain, throw a few lesser problems at them. If it's a PMD like this anon said >>26663164, you can do a few things. Someone's lost, someone needs to get somewhere, something needs to be found. This can be done even if it's a typical human character RP. Give them a few different kinds of problems and see what they what they bite (you can say there's other people who will handle what they decide not to, if you want to keep them from thinking about handling them all).

I'd say go with classic protag-vs-nature problems to start off with. They need to clear some place, they're lost somewhere and need to get supplies/figure out where they are. A storm is happening, earthquake fucked things up. Depending on the scale you want to go with and it's seriousness, look at disaster movies and the like. Villains can be introduced later too, with someone taking advantage of the chaos. And, since it's Pokemon, maybe someone caused it.

Primarily, remember you're probably going to have to be flexible and long term plans beyond shallow ideas will probably run into trouble.

For your first inquiry, I imagine a scenario where the group would enter a village and find trainers with rare pokemon, challenge them to a battle, with the loser handing over their rarest card- I mean handing over their Pokemon to the winner. If they refuse, they'll beat the trainer with physical force. Basically, battles with an ante rule.

As for your second question, it's pretty obvious why they would do that. For one, to get rid of evidence that they were there. Two, to mentally scar the witnesses of their crimes to prevent them from speaking out. After all, if you saw a hysteric woman running down the street saying her house was set on fire, you're more likely than not to believe she's gone insane, as she wouldn't stop shaking or crying while telling you of how strange people came out of nowhere and took her pokemon. You'd be more likely to believe she needs to go to the Pokemon Center to get a mental test done. Thirdly, to spread fear throughout the region. After the first few incidents, people would no longer think of the destroyed towns rumor as a joke, but as a serious threat. Some would be willing to give up their pokemon just to stop their village from being destroyed, others will try and band together to fend them off. After all, a simple group of theives stealing pokemon doesn't make for a very climatic confrontation. A revenge motive would certainly drive the protagonists to stop the villains well.
>>
>>26664170
First point is fair enough, I assumed they were catching rare pokemon in the wild.

Second point is silly. Committing a crime leads to some sort of law enforcement response on a scale relative to the crime. If you beat up and rob a kid, the response is an officer getting a report and telling their office to be on the lookout for some generic guy with X pokemon. If you burn down houses and kill people to...avoid getting caught for theft?- you get a huge police response for what was originally a relatively small, low-risk crime. If your organization wants to steal pokemon for some sort of black market, they don't want to spread the word about themself by terrorizing the country. Why would they ever want to risk bringing military attention to what should be an underground, low-profile organization?

A common theme in fanfiction and even mainstream media is the skimming of antagonist development and motivation in favor of making them unambiguously evil for the sake of it in order to focus on how good it makes the protagonist look in comparison. A well written antagonist should have motivations that a reader can understand and sympathize with to some extent.
>>
>>26665009
But what if there were dirty cops that were members of "The Snatchers?" They'd be double agents. Just when you thought that policeman would save you, he literally stabs your sense of hope in the back. Bribing the police not to report the incidents could be another possibility. After all, this is an oorganization that makes its killing off of rare pokemon, it's easy to assume they'd be incredibly wealthy.
But for the second part of your response I can agree with. A well-written villain is crucial to a story's overall quality. But this isn't my story at all, I'm just simply throwing out an idea for this anon to play with and see if they like it or not.
>>
>>26665365
If they're powerful enough to not need to worry about the law, why would they need to raze villages to get rid of evidence? Also, intimidating people isn't an excuse either; it's overkill. When you already got the police in your pocket, you don't need to commit mass murder as part of your business just to prove a point. They're some sort of mafia, not the Khmer Rouge. It comes off as stupid RPG cliche.
>>
>>26665484
Again anon, it's a rough idea for them to play with. I know it's full of holes, no need to poke through every single one of them.
Besides, have you ever read a logical rp? No, because every rp is flawed.

What kind of motive would someone need to decide to transform all living Pokemon into robots? I'm having trouble coming up with one that doesn't steal from Eggman's reasoning for his motive to stop the endless life/death cycle caused by the world's food chain
>>
>>26670769
How would you turn a plant into a robot? Just wondering.
>>
>>26670825
A basic replacement of extracting the usual anatomy that makes up plant cells (notably water), leaving only cell wall/cellulose, and replacing/reinforcing it with specialized polymer gel that acts as the substitute for water and other essentials

I'm not good with science stuff though so I'm not sure how feasible it would be.
>>
>>26670769
There's not really any good "feasible" to turn entire ecosystems into robots. The other motives tend to boil down to:

* Control - robots can be non-autonomous, unlike sentient sapient beings. Want to fully control a world, villain? Why bother even letting people be able of independent thought? Just make everything into robots.

* Hubris - the villain decides that robots are superior. Even if the villain is a robot himself, this argument can be brought down very easily as all argument that rely on hubris to maintain themselves.

* Fear - the villain hates or fears death (biological or conceptual) or related concepts such as ageing, and is too blind to see the irony in becoming that which he hates. Because fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, and hate leads to overused memes.

* Allergies - the villain just despises the very idea of biology that much.
>>
>>26671175
Non-ideal robots put into environments typical of biological creatures would likely break down faster than those organisms do. Machines lack the dynamic adaptability of us meat-bags.

Wow, just now checking back after a bit and it's cool to see my question sparked so much discussion!

My original question was a little misinterpreted so I wasn't sure if I should respond and put more focus on me, but since discussion popped up anyway there seemed no harm in it. This isn't as much the type of plot where once it's conquered, the RP is over - I more needed to create the setting and needed it critiqued.

But after reading what y'all had to say about antagonists, I decided crime to still be a prevalent issue but in the form of smuggling rare Pokemon. That way, players will be presented with the moral dilemma of participating in illegal black market trade or missing out on the rare Pokemon of their dreams.

I really must stop forgetting that I'm in charge of the catalog. My deepest apologies to everyone who was kept waiting, but I've just gone through and put in all the fics that were in waiting. Sorry again, I'll try and be more vigilant about it in the future.

Go full sci-fi and have it take over every computer to stop attempts at it, then introduce characters who don't like it and follow them through their journeys getting derailed, intertwined, and eventually figuring out a way to stop the malevolent artificial intelligence while also finishing their journey.
