We are getting less new Pokémon than X/Y. They've said in the past that they are slowing down to delay reaching the burden of 1000.

It's also a great business tactic because X/Y shows that they can still sell games like hotcakes despite only having 16% new Pokémon, because this fanbase is beyond fucking saving and everyone thought Gen V was the end of the world.

In what world do addition Pokemon in an evolutionary line not count as Pokemon? Mega evolutions don't count for several valid reasons (such as, it is the same Pokemon, it is a temporary boost, etc). Yes we know they take roughly the same amount of work to design, model, and rig as a new Pokemon does but that doesn't matter.

Also, gen4 and 5 were the only ones that weren't the top selling game of their time. All other gens surpassed the sellings of Mario games(among others), that is considered the biggest game franchise of the world.

No, because it's still just a temporary form of an existing pokemon. And besides that, you'd have give every other mega their own dex number too and I guess a new entry for them? Where would you put them anyway? The Kalos dex? What about the ORAS megas? Obviously you couldn't retrofit them into the Hoenn dex as that would just mess it all up. Megas are new forms but not new pokemon.
