LACK OF VARIATION
>>
competitive pokemon is a joke
>>
>>26555146
What's wrong with it? No shit people on a competition are going to use what works.

If you want more diversity play an actually balanced game.
>>
Which shit is better than the other shit?

Hey, here's a thought. Let's not eat shit!
>>
>>26555146
ban legends and tell everyone going 'muh articuno' to go fuck themselves desu
>>
DIVERSITY IS NOT A GOOD THING.

The more viable Pokemon there are, the more the metagame becomes luck-based instead of skill-based. You cannot prepare for all 721 Pokemon with 6 mons and 24 moves. It's not a matter of "good teambuilding", it's literally impossible. Do you complain about how every chess game uses the same pieces? No? Then why do you do so for Pokemon?

>but I want my bro to be viable ;_;

Play a lower tier, then. Oh, right, /vp/ hates Smogon.
>>
Competitive battling was a mistake.

2008 was fun, the guy who won ran a TR team with Endeavor Smeargle and Substitute Snorlax. I had no idea it was the first VGC though. I feel old...

For what conceivable reason is the third legendary based on the planet Mars?
>>
>>26555448
Shit, I meant to make that a thread. I'll just leave this here for your amusement then
>>
Why aren't legendaries banned again?
>>
>>26555146
This pachirisu still triggers me, how shit was the rest of competition that they allowed some shitty gook with a shitmon to win?
>>
>>26555146
Why is this allowed? Those teams are boring.
>>
>>26555481
It was just a supportmon that played second fiddle to his actual damage dealers.
The only thing I hate about it is the torrent of "see! any pkmn can win, jus beliv in urslf" "a really talented trainer can make anything work!" shit that it created.
>>
>>26555518
That is kind of true, but it's the wrong way around; he didn't make Pachirisu work because he's such a genius and wanted to make his bro good, he just had a decent team that by pure chance happened to fit Pachirisu's very specific niche, and he recognised that.
>>
>>26555518
There's lots of other uncommon pokemon that have shown up in top cuts but nobody cares about those. Look at some of the crazy stuff in 2011.
>>
>>26555481
Look at the 2014 and 2015 teams. The only reason he used Pachirisu is because Amoonguss wasn't allowed in VGC 2014 and Follow Me + Nuzzle was the closest approximation to Rage Powder + Spore that was available.
>>
>>26555573
Pachirisu is also stronger than most people think
>>
>>26555665
amoonguss was allowed though
>>
>>26555696
Yeah, he used it because its typing worked better on his team and because Follow Me shits all over faggots with Safety Goggles
>>
>>26555624
Facebook kids didn't care about Pokémon in 2011, though. The Pachirisu thing was right in the middle of the X/Y craze.
>>
Can someone explain to a noob the love of Landorus?
>>
>>26555731
Stupidly good typing, intimidate, high damage with decent bulk and versatility.
>>
>>26555146
>everyone uses the exact same teams
>people think this is competitive
>>
>>26555242
You can't compare chess, a game completely based on strategy, to Pokemon, where the competitive scene is full of cookie-cutter teams and RNG reliance.

Is there some strategy involved? Yes, but you can't tell me stuff like paralyze, freeze, burn, etc. isn't based on luck. Shit like this is present on every tier of competitive play and the chances of it happening are usually out of the control of the players.

If you won a match because of a critical hit or a parahax, chances are the competitive scene was never entirely skill based to begin with.
>>
>>26555624
2011 was the gen-5-only meta
>>
>>26555731
>145 base attack. For comparison, Gyarados has 125 base attack, Garchomp has 130, Mega Salamence is also 145 (but uses a mega slot)
>Intimidate drops the attack of both opponent's Pokémon by 1/3. This turns most moves that would usually OHKO into 2HKO, buying you extra turns
>U-Turn lets it switch out easily and come back for more intimidates
>Rock Slide lets it flinch everything
>Decent defences and speed
>Only two weaknesses, with two immunities and three resistances

Just kind of has it all
>>
>>26555624
If you take out the genies, Terrakion, Trick Room setters and Trick Room abusers (which were big because Gen 5 had a huge number of TR Pokémon) you're only really left with a few interesting things, which is usual in such a narrow list of Pokémon.
>>
>>26555422
If case anyone's interested, here are the 2007 Japanese finals with this guy's team in action
>tfw drumlax will never be the meta again

https://youtu.be/EhQ5AC-HSSc
>>
>>26555820
Ray's gothitelle did not have trick room, it had thunder wave. The escavalier was specifically there to beat Wolfe's trick room.
>>
>>26555824
>both play as Dawn
based nips
>>
>>26555518
>The only thing I hate about it is the torrent of "see! any pkmn can win, jus beliv in urslf" "a really talented trainer can make anything work!" shit that it creat
Why would you hate that? It created a ton of positive PR for VGC and encouraged casuals to try their hand at competitive. VGC15 had nothing like that and now barely anyone shows up on the qualifiers.
>>
>>26555763
>>26555795

Ahh I see, thanks.
>>
>>26555843
I'm just a selfish fag on the internet who's sick of hearing it. Publicity, is good for VGC, yes.
>>
>>26555731
It is very easy to put it on a team due to its great typing and bulk. It has high enough attack to at least 2hko anything not specifically a tank or resist whatever it is carrying, a movepool that dings several of the competitive jewels, and intimidate.

If, by some miracle, it faces a situation where none of its jobs will be helpful, it can almost always at least force a trade, if not get a 2-for-1 with Explosion.

It isn't the best at any of what it does, but it does so much for a team that it is the braindead teambuilders choice.
>>
>>26555843
2012 was actually the year with the lowest regionals attendance by far. I don't think the teams used in 2011 had anything to do with that.
>>
>>26555824
I forgot which year had Heracross banned, but I still remember that in the same year, things like Kyogre and Mewtwo were allowed.

If I remember right, Heracross was banned that one time because the format was singles, it was the faster user of Reversal, the faster Guts abuser with a 120 BP STAB move, right?
>>
>>26555440
>The attack missed
>>
>>26555877
The Pachirisu thing was 2014.
>>
>>26555884
Pretty sure that was gen 3 if it really happened. Nobody used EndRev in DPPt era.
>>
>>26556158
I know, that's why I ask in which year was.
