BW having a good story helped them massively to become my favourite games. Its definitely a huge bonus, though its not necessary.

Because online play is just matches over and over again. I want to explore the region again with Pokémon I haven't tried out. It's the whole experience that makes Pokémon fun.
Except the newer stories that get in the way of the adventure, those can fuck off.

And it's not like I avoid it, sometimes I'll mess around with Showdown and teams, but it just isn't interesting.

Story in Pokemon is inherently repetitive. If I play BW a hundred times, the story will always be the same. The things that change from person to person and playthrough to playthrough are a lot more important to me. The Pokemon I choose, the moves I give them, the path I take, the things I find; that's what matters, because that's what makes my playthrough my own.

Lore doesn't have to be a big intrusive story like BW. I'd like to see more locations like Sea Mauville, where exploring the environment and finding clues is what helps you piece together the world's history. It's a lot more interesting and mysterious that way.
