I used to play Yu-Gi-Oh too before it became a money game with powercreep getting out of hand. Pokemon has been getting bothersome with powercreep too recently but at least formats like OU can try to keep things reasonable.

I enjoy them, I think they're fun. I think the pokemon are cute and it's a cool game. I actually like self insertion, it makes me feel like I'm worth something, so being a kid and taking down an evil team and being able to handle a legendary pokemon bc ur speshal makes me feel like im not a fucking loser

Anyway because the series is the chill out and have fun variety, it's something I miss about video games honestly there's very little series that do this still.

Because I just never stopped enjoying them. Don't know what else to tell you. I'm not that into most other properties of the franchise anymore, or the competitive part at all, but playing thought the main adventure, filling my pokedex, etc. is still consistently fun to pull me back with each installment.

Also, if anything, I play a lot more of other games than I did when I was younger. What's this "modern games are shit" thing? Maybe just stop playing shit games?

I dont know, something about them feels homely to me. There were two different periods of my pokemon game -career. First, I played gen 1-3 as a kid, then quit and forgot about pokemon for like 6-7 years. Then came back and started up Diamond (as an "adult"), and after that ive been playing all of the main games.

I love the pokemon themselves and making weird teams etc. and the pokemon world is fun to explore.

Because, it is the perfect game to zone out in. The same reason why I enjoy Minecraft and Stardew Valley. I can just throw on a podcast/movie and just enjoy sinple fun.

Because they are still fun to me, they basically have near-infinite replay value simply because you can use a different team every time you play through any of the games, each gen is unique in its own way and has good things even though some are better than others, the games aren't bogged down by DLC and season passes and crap like that that most modern games have...there's a long list of reasons why I still enjoy them.

Honestly, anon, it's because Pokemon is one of the few thriving monster-command games out there. Spectrobes is dead, Bakugan is worn out and cliched, Digimon is going nowhere. The only other games I've played even featuring monsters are ones where you just 'slay' them (Monster Hunter, for example.)

The gameplay is shallow and unbalanced and that's just the battling I'm talking about. So why do people play the same shit all the time? It's the design novelty. I like coming up with teams in rpgs, the bigger variety, the better (although I do not care about the competitive aspect at all). Plus, it's one of the best experiences in video games when you take a character/monster from the bottom/lowest level all the way to the top.
The gameplay itself is pretty lacklustre, though. If Sun/Moon doesn't improve in that regard I may finally give up on the franchise.

I like the new pokemon every gen, raising them and spanking NPCs is fun. Building yur own party with the pokemon you like is one of the best part though, I'm a casual.

Y is the first game where I've actually managed to complete the National Dex because the GTS in't complete bullshit (lets you search or ask for pokemon that you haven't already seen), I'm pretty proud of myself.

Pokemon taught me how to read essentially, and the fondest memories I have of Pokemon are Deoxys being my favorite Pokemon enough for me to start sperging about it to my friends after I action Replayed it. It gave me two of them, but I misplaced the carts somewhere.

I still play it because even though the games and anime are limited, the prospect of Pokemon having higher technology than we could ever dream of due to powerful creatures is absolutely fascinating to me. There's a lot of aspects, to the trainers, to the Pokemon, to diverse landmasses and their lore. It makes me want to keep playing, to know more about it, to see what comes next. Pokemon has been there since I was young as hell, so even if I wanted to, I probably couldn't abandon it.

basically this. i collect grass types and to a lesser extent ghost types because they are really cute. also i feel that as a person who highly reveres nature and spiritual awareness above all else it is part of my identity to collect the two aforementioned types. but really i am just struggling with the harsh reality that the standard of living in america is not what i want and therefore too high to settle for, so i project some part of my hopes and dreams onto this game. it is just entertaining enough to be a distraction from what i really want, but only for about 300 hours or so until the next game drops.

Many reasons. When I was a child I was bullied constantly because of my appearance and my fatness. Pokemon allowed me to escape for a while (even through pokemon was another reason I was bullied since girls were seen as weird for liking those typically considered boy games
I was and also still love animals,and I used to beg for a dog to have,but They didn't want any animals around the house. Besides,I enjoy seeing them honored and reimagined in their pokemon counterparts. Also the game is simply fun.
