Boxing your starter should be standard. Designs aside they are almost guaranteed to be generic in terms of movepool and ability (Until hidden abilities are released).
If you've used one starter, you've used them all, and there are definitely going to be 6 more interesting Pokemon that you could use instead

What does that even mean? What else would you base your choices on?
There is no interesting "story" in the games, they are all terrible. Why compound that by picking mons that you KNOW are just going to be copies of previous gens?
Every starter will have an ability that increases the dmg of its main type moves by X%
They will all have the generic moveset of increasingly powerful STAB's and a few other things thrown in for flavor
They will all function decently in game without really blowing you away.
They are just boring.

I'm not going to try to change your opinion, do what you want. I'm just here for the leaks/reveals. I won't be buying the games, but it does surprise me how many people here seem to take these games "seriously" and actually RP through them.

The average "sunfag" and the average "moonfag" are normal people and children just as the average Pokemon fan is
