I mean, I still like yellow on the VC and all, but the limitations have made me put the game down for a break far more often than is really needed. Yet to play it out and I got it within a week of being on the eshop if memory serves.

It's not even hard, I willingly went into Kogas gym severely underleveled (I am talking 30-32 level range when most of the gym was 35-50, damn you Koga for your imba Venomoth kek.)

Still cleared the gym without wiping out a single time. Gen1 was never very difficult, just mechanically "not sensible".

Now, in HGSS, you get so few desirable TMs before the Elite Four that there's barely anything to save to begin with. Roost, Shadow Ball, Iron Tail, Dragon Pulse, and if you grind at Voltorb Flip for about an hour, Ice Beam, Thunderbolt, & Flamethrower. That's really about it.

GSC had totally shit TMs (except for the elemental punches, really); and although HGSS is a vast improvement, the vast majority of the "good" or staple moves are locked away in Kanto or in the Battle Frontier...

You can still use Missingno. to get infinite items in Yellow, it's just done differently. Trust me, I duplicated all the vitamins, the Masterball, desirable TMs, Rare Candy, etc.

Basically you do the "Mew glitch," except you use a Pokemon with a high special like Articuno and a Ditto to make the "Aerodactyl skeleton" Missingno. show up. All you have to do is catch it, and your 6th item will get 125 or whatever added onto it. You can even swap the 6th item with SELECT once you encounter it to duplicate two items per pop.

I started with gen 1 back during Pokemania. Played every gen in order. Gen 1 is literally painful to play because the mechanics are illogical. It's not a survival game, so why limit the bagspace? The TM thing is not that bad, but 80% of the TM's suck utter shit, and the level up moves suck dick. Getting coverage requires an entire team rather than just a couple of mons, which makes having HM's and no move deleter that much more obnoxious.

There are several legitimate issues that got fixed moving forward. Lets not pretend that every mechanic in gen 1 was great, because they weren't.

That said, if you can stomach a little punishment, the games are still great. Yellow especially is the least heinous since it fixes some level up moves etc.
