I think the best state of this board would be a year or so two after where there was only one thread for porn dumps that people would put behind spoilers and tag. Probalbly my favorite threads were of people making Pokemon parodies of famous songs, It pisses me off that I still can't find "Trainer Boi" in the archives.

The single worst state was the first half year or so of /vp/ where porn was everywhere, everyone was trying to make a meme out of something, Digimon posting, crossboarders shitting on this board's existence, and shittons of GET attempts.

Those who think present day is the worst /vp/ has ever been were NEVER around for those times.

Ive been lurking 4 chins since i think 2010 or 2011, mostly on b, didnt find out about vp till much later, alls i remember was that there was like only 5 of you in vp, and i remember the same few threads being at the top of the catalog for 2 or 3 days. I remember there was porn, but there was also some very civilized threads. But it moved so slow due to there only being 5 people. And didnt post thinking, the earliest anyone will read this is tomorrow. I remember /b being much much much worse than it is now, it was byewbs or leave immediately and always (its not like that anymore, no matter what anyone says) , you can tell /b is underage now along with a huge increase in trap threads, cucked threads, and literal homosexuality threads, there was gore and rekt threads in /b back then that made me stop lurking for months and even though i wasnt affected when i saw them, i started having gory and creepy nightmares. /b is still funny but its very mild these days. some things though have evolved normally (such as ylyl cancer banana)

There was always cancerous shit on /vp/, but the difference was how people responded to the cancer.

We used to make the best out of the shit. We'd Garybomb the porn and have a good time. We'd derail the faggy underage threads with porn, which would turn into Garybombing anyway. It was a shithole, but it was our shithole and we defended it because it was home. We finally had a little slice of the internet to anonymously talk about Pokemon with our fellow humongous faggots and we loved it.

But now there's just so much cancer that there's nothing to be done. There have been times where it been this full of Reddit and underage before, that's true, but it never fully recovers from times like that.

i browsed /vp/ shortly after it was made, but didn't stick around because it was shit.

a couple years later, i tried coming back and found it was still shit, but my standards were lower.

these days, it's a different kind of shit thanks to an overall younger userbase. i guess it can't be helped. maybe someday i'll muster up enough willpower to leave again

/vp/ is really shitty now, but its nothing compared to the deterioration of /r9k/, be happy there are at least remnants of the old times.
