How would a Pokémon MMO be? Some people think it would be so successful that handheld games would no longer sell, while others complain that it wouldn’t translate well (which is pretty valid for a lot of things). But imagine if you got to brainstorm for a PokeMMOn game with unlimited resources, how would you do it? What parts of the core Pokemon formula would you change? I’ll start

>TMs are reverted to one time use, but crafting system added, can be bought/ sold
>EX if you want to teach a Pokémon Thunderbolt, you have to go grind electric Pokemon in the wild, who upon being defeated, dissolve, giving the trainer an “essence drop” which once enough is gained, can be crafted into a TM (move tutor moves included in this system).
>Trainers choose classes which grant boosts, a bug-specialist would give bonus stats to their bug Pokémon the more bugs they have (Swarm mentality), while Dragon specialists would train their dragon Pokémon faster than normal.
>Mega stones would be extremely rare.
>Eggs sit in an incubator for days before hatching, but it’s much easier to get perfect IV Pokémon.
>All items and (level one) Pokémon can be put up for auction
>Legendaries can’t be caught, but are raid bosses that drop awesome items/ amounts of “essence drop.”
>PVP battles only allow a certain number of switches, putting emphasis on having an unpredictable opener (perhaps increasing variety?)- this one is more of an asspull though

Isn't this Minecraft?

I'm pretty sure drops from spawned creatures is a pretty universal RPG thing.

True mmos can be kind of obnoxious. At least when I think of a pokemon mmo I basically just mean an open world third person pokemon game where you wander around doing quest-lines that are in the area and getting stronger. So gameplay that is typical for mmos but isn't really a defining characteristic and is also in elder scrolls/fallout/whatever.

Fine, I'll critque.
>TMs reverted to one time use
Literally why? You just add an unessential time dump in order to get, what forums will get in 6 months, THE optimal team for that patch.
>EX if you want to teach a Pokémon Thunderbolt, you have to go grind
Gonna stop you there, everyone hates forced grinding.
>Trainer Classes
Please god no. Min-maxers will just abuse the fuck out of this, it will become less of adding flavor to the game and become more of an Optimization tool. Also god forbid you nerf the hell out of a fan favorate trainer class, to the point they're unusable.
>Mega Stones would be extremely rare
And like any other MMO, be required to run endgame content with any kind of group within 6 months of release due to Equipment > skill that such systems bring with it.
>Eggs sit in an incubator for days, easier to get perfect IV pokemon
You might as well introduce a system of straight up manipulating IVs so that the starter pokemon you've grown attached to won't get abandoned in the PC, never to be used again.
>Pokemon can be put up for auction
At least it's not offering a Pigdy for a Mew
>Legendaries can't be caught
Why not? Why not just nerf the hell out of them once they are caught? Why not make them storyline rewards rather than raids? Also Raids, 10 pokemon vs 1 Legendary sounds more like poaching than anything else.
>PVP battles
Let's not lie, any major changes to PVP away from the current norm(gen VI) will not only fracture any kind of fanbase you have, but have active detractors who point out why it's the worst thing since roaming legendaries.

>the same boring formula Korea has been churning out for a decade
>BUT WITH POKEMON!!!
>real-life timewalls on an assumed P2P game

No, this is not a good idea. It would be just a really boring MMO but with Pokemon but none of the draws of Pokemon besides the meta
>>
Honestly my issue with it is the fact that an MMO, by its very nature, makes you have to interact with the other players.

So every minute of the game, you're going to be pushed to party up with every single 10 year old who's bored of call of duty, every 30 year old deviantart/furaffinity autist, and every tryhard minmaxing smogonfag telling you that you're playing the game wrong. And that's going to be 90% of the playerbase.

Who the fuck wants to play that game and what could it possibly offer that a regular Pokemon game couldn't?
