DPP had starter designs that didn't look to simple or minimalistic to achieve a lasting effect on the viewer like jhoto, didn't deteriorate as they evolved by way of mangled proportions or clashing colors like hoenn, and didn't betray their intended gimmick or role by being to awkwardly designed to fit the original vision of what they were supposed to be like unova.
