As for Zygarde, I go by the Japanese pronunciation, though I usually say "zai-guard" because it's easier to say.

It's not "obviously" nor "clearly" Germanic, but it's likely that's what they were going for. You have to remember, though, that the names which are the same in Japanese existed in Japanese first, and so the romanisations aren't necessarily entirely accurate.

For the longest time, I had mentally switched the second "a" and the first "e" in Salamence and pronounced it it "Sal-eh-man-ss" instead of "Sal-ah-men-ss"

First of all, Suicune is "soo-ee-coon". You have to pronounce the "i" else you're literally ignoring part of the name just because you're a dumb, illiterate faggot.

Next, Arceus is indeed "arse-ee-us". The "official American pronunciation" thing is bullshit. They changed it, so technically both work, but since the name is exactly the same in Japanese, the Japanese pronunciation trumps the American one, especially since that was the original version.
Plus, I don't live in America, so fuck their "official pronunciations".

Japan also pronounces Genesect with a hard G even though it's obviously based on gene or genesis, so it's a soft G in English. It's not always the same.
