Well, considering Japan...

If it IS a trio, it could also very well be Sun, Moon, and Storms. Amaterasu, Tsukoyomi, and Susanoo.

That said, it could very well be a Legendary DUO. Sun/Moon is a good duality already, and there ARE legendary duos: Notably, Cresselia/Darkrai, representing good dreams and nightmares, respectively.

Just some thoughts to fuel the discussion. :)

The mascot's role wasn't as important as in other games. Team Aqua needed Kyogre to flood the world. Cyrus needed Palkia/Dialga to rebuild the universe.
