Man, Onix was one of my favourites as a child. I don't hate Steelix, but its not nearly as cool. I keep trying to find ways to use Onix but he's just... not very good. Why is his attack so low?!

Arcanine and Nidoking have good BSTs. Their issue is that gamefreak gave them a real bad case of gen 1 and 2 syndrome. Their stats are all over the place and have no focus.

But thats objectively wrong. Is it because its not what you wanted for Dewott to become? Dewott was literally an ordinary otter that started the samurai motif whereas Samurott is the full-fledged shell armored water warrior with the swords. Not meeting to your aesthetic standards doesn't remove the fact that it finalizes the concept very well.

Ninetales gets Drought which means every Fire attack does a lot more than its base 81 SpA would suggest, as well as granting it it use of the high BP Solar Beam. It's faster than Arcanine, and and gets access to Nasty Plot, good coverage moves, and even a surprisingly good amount of utility moves for a frail offensive Fire type.

They each have their own pros and cons.

I saw pictures of Tropius before I first encountered it in Ruby and Sapphire and I honestly thought it was going to be this really strong grass/dragon-type pseudo legendary just because the mental image of a huge diplodocus Pokemon with enormous leaf wings blasting Solarbeam out of its mouth was so badass. For 9-year old me this was the definition of cool.

It didn't help that my friend told me you encounter it in a dark and rainy area where you have to walk through some really tall grass that constatly slows you down as you progress. This was all setting up for it to be a really cool encounter.

I guess the dream of a strong grass type was just not meant to be but I still really like the design. Maybe the new Hawaii-region will give Tropius something new to work with.
