The shield isn't always there, it's only for a move, not unlike Blaziken's flame wrists or Sceptile's Leaf Blade.

Coloring's a bit weird, but on the whole not much. It's much better than Delphox and was clearly not supposed to be as popular as Greninja anyway. Wouldn't surprise me if they held back.

Chesnaught is just a resounding "meh" to me. I can see both the flaws and merits as clear as day, therefore I neither adore it or have an insatiable hateboner for it. I will say however I can probably understand most people's disappointment. Ultimately for me I guess he's interesting with those stats and moves, plus Bulletproof. It's one of those mons I will truly never reach a consensus on. I still stand by my decision of going Greninja (Even though I boxed him Lv 36 and he is forced).

It always looks great in fan art, but the official art and the fucking T-pose its in-game model is in makes it look like it can't bend its fucking arms. It's the stupid club-arms, stumpy legs, and hunched back, and all of that is posing.

If it would stand up straight and bend its arms, it would be 8/10, at least. The design is fine. They just dropped the ball when Baraboy over there stood up like a slob.

I kind of like him now, but the face is what I find the worst about him. Should have been bigger and "inside" the armor shell like its pre-evolution. Also the two big spikes which used to be on its head are now on its back, that shouldn't have changed as well. Finally, its arms are strange, but I'd still like him a lot more if the two previous aspects were improved.

I won't lie seeing chesnaught for the first time almost made me jump ship to the frog since braixen already crashed and burned. Stuck with it in the end and i'm glad I did. Flying weakness be damned grass/fight is fun especially with spikey shield, thunder punch, and drain punch shenanigans.

It's has a weird hunch back pose but it's body is fairly slim, it only has a giant, awkward armor plate thing to give it the illusion that it's a large pokemon. It's arms are also stuck out awkwardly for some reason. Greninja has a dynamic pose, Chesnaught is the complete opposite. The pale coloring and white fur make it almost completely unrelated to Chespin/Quilladin. If it didn't have "Ches" in it's name and wasn't partially green I would struggle to identify it as their evolution, it's that different. The arm shield thing is also completely out of nowhere, there's nothing about his design that suggests his arms could possibly form into a shield.

It's a mess. I could ramble on about how to fix it would end up looking like a completely different pokemon. They should have just scrapped Quilladin and Chesnaught and started over. I saw this fan art and was really impressed, imagine my fucking disappointment when blurry images of Chesnaught started being leaked.

Hopefully 99% doubit it though they fix up some of the 3d models for older pokemon in S/M.

Arms are too long compared to the legs and the pose makes it worse.
Should have been a fast-defensive pokemon since its "cardboard thin" shell seems incredible light.
I'm probably the only one that likes the white normal colors tho, I think it goes well with the knight theme. The shiny is better, I don't deny that.

Colors aren't good, I wouldn't go with it's shiny theme but it could definatly use alot less white in there. Pose and arms look kinda weird, no shield gauntlet or anything to justify his signature move. Probably the worst thing though is the shell, it looks like a cardboard backpack more than plate armor.

Throw a bit more brown and beige in there, make his arms shorter and less like giant dildos, and make the shell look better and he'd be pretty awesome.
