Ash, Serena, Clemont, and Bonny are resting in a Pokemon Center. A sudden snowstorm traps them inside their rooms. With the outside environment too harsh, the foursome decides to use the computer to learn about new Pokemon battling strategies, when suddenly, they stumble upon a mysterious website subsection entitled "/vp/".

A guy trying to prove he's the strongest trainer is going around battling people who have beaten gyms. He finally comes to Ash on his list and they have a battle and Ash loses. Determined to get better and beat the trainer, Ash makes his team train on top of the mountains with the trainer's dad. Ash goes through tough military style training with his pokemon to get strong physically and mentally. There he starts to understand his Pokemon more, learning what they really feel about Ash, that they don't respect him enough to trust him through a full battle. Ash proves himself to his pokemon by hiking a dangerous trail by himself filled with strong pokemon. Getting zapped, poisoned, beaten and almost frozen solid, Ash makes it out in one piece. Making his pokemon respect him more and making himself stronger. Ash then battles the trainer again, the battle lasts until the final two pokemon, Greninja vs Chesnaught. The fight was a tough one but Greninja uses ice beam to finish him off.
