not even realistic

Raichu is cool, but the zapdos looks like a midget with that big head and stubby everything else. It looks like he tried to scale up a tiny kingfisher. And I'm not even going to mention the rest.

Why the fuck did they make Honedge some kind of insect?
It's a bloody sword. If you want to make it a living animal, have it be like a stick insect or somehting. The wings are just weird.

Since Garchomp and Hippowdon were both introduced at the same time and both are Ground types despite their basis being on water animals I always had a theory.
Basically, their original habitat was filled with water but after a long time the water dried up creating a desert-like environment. because of that, the pokemon there quickly adapted to live on land and obtained the Ground typing

Well if you actually bothered to check the actual deviantart page he actually has descriptions for the pokemon.
For instance, Lampent float because they have gas sacks and they also have bioluminescence which jellyfish actually have.
>Jellyfish can't fly, they quickly die out of water because that's what they're mostly made of.
It's called adapting to a new environment. It's not like they just jumped out of the ocean and started floating around. It's supposed to have happened over a long period of time.

Coming up with scientific reasons of how pokemon might be able to work in real life is also a part of the sub-community I talked about here >>26363933

>>
>>26364834
The whole point is try and find a way that these pokemon could fit in the real world. If you had to pick an animal and not have something like literal spirits possessing things then I'd say a jellyfish is a pretty good match.
And what's so bad about a gas sack? Fish have swim bladders that help them float, who's to say a billion years down the line it won't evolve into something that could hold gasses that would let it float? And why can't another animal evolve something similar. Especially if its a jellyfish that went down that evolutionary path a long time ago, not just current jellyfish spontaneously doing it.
Of course it's not supposed to be literally scientifically accurate, but it's supposed to be more so than just a possessed lamp that evolved from a candle.
>>
>>26365041
If you're going to make up alien-like animals you might as well say "well in the future lamps come alive and start attacking humans!" They're equally believable if we're talking about the amount of time it takes for a brand new species unlike anything the world currently has to evolve.

It would have to have evolved from some already existing animal and therefore nothing really changes except maybe looking a bit more like the original design.

Because in a series with ghosts, gods, and goblins around every corner, you come to expect some element of the fantastic in any interpretation.
>>

>kingyou goldfish have the proper finshape for the interpratation
I suppose it could work, but those fins don't look like ropes at all. They could be made to look like that, but until I can see an example myself I'd go with the frog version as a closer representation.
It goes to show that there can be several different interpretations to what it could be. You shouldn't get hung up in any specific one.
>certainly much less of a stretch than a bat gastly.
And what would you propose? It was made in a way where I can easily recognize it as the ghastly line so I don't see how that makes it some big stretch.

>you could stop sucking arvalis' dick any time mate.
Hey, I much prefer regular realistic versions of pokemon that don't try to link to real animals all the time myself, but I can also enjoy this kind of interpretation as well.
Literally any realistic pokemon drawing is going to be the interpretation of the artist. I don't see why someone having a specific theme that they follow for their interpretations should be called shit just for that.
>>
>>26366135
not when the interpretation is realism.
>>
>>26361040
Have you even bothered to look at Zapdos? It DOES have a big head and stubby everything else.
>>
>>26366255
How is a mite which attaches to and, apparently, telekinetically controls a sword to attack more realistic than said sword being possessed by a vengeful ghost?

Oh ok

>I am a complete retard at interpreting images and I have no fear to show it

Arvalis's Honedge is obviously a bug all the way, where the fuck did you even get that description?

>Beelzebub Giratina
PERFECT

WHAT THE FUCK
>>
>>26367226
Not that anon, but the "honedge line as mites" is from another artist. catandcrown, I think.

My theory based on some dex entries and the fact turnback cave is said to connect the living and the dead when it actually connects to the disortion wold is that they are extra dimensional pokemon that are from there, but can pass into normal reality via there and other locations said to be haunted.

One fucking job

This both inspires and upsets me because this person's art style is similar to mine and is pretty much EXACTLY the direction I was trying to take mine towards in terms of realistic/cartoony balance and style, now i'll just feel like a massive copycat. Fuck

It's loosely based on a kookaburra, they have kinda goofy proportions, big heads and big beaks.
>>
>>26361054
>people bitching about someone not being able to make a haunted ghost sword realistic.

Insect honestly works really well. Antennae for the sash, a fake eye for spooking predators, long silver abdomen resembles a sword. What the fuck else he gon turn it into, a lizard?
>>
>>26361427
This is so gross.

Why does /vp/ have to bitch about Arvalis whenever he gets posted.

I don't like this because the head and forelimbs are literally Lagiacrus' and the tail is just Gravios.
I really wish he did original Monster Hunter designs, but I guess there's just not enough money there.
His designs are amazing half the time, but it's too bad retards like >>26363432 and >>26361221who don't into speculative biology just assume he's retarded and shit all over him in his DA feedback.
I do agree that the birds get real old real quick, though.
>>
>>26361766
Because they're good UNLESS they're actually not edgy enough most of the time and real life can't be overdesigned, anon.

>Why the fuck is this an insect
>It should have been this kind of insect
>>
>>26361094
You're missing the point. Avralis is looking at the series of what are basically wild animals who fight and imagining them as actual fucking animals in a realistic, non-magical world. In no such world would a Lamp up and get spooky.
>>26362058
His interpretations are amazing for the limitations he's set for himself, which is to say possible but potentially outlandish, while basing them on real animals because it would remove the point if he could just do asspulls like making up an entire Class of animals.
>>
>>26361428
Literally say your favorite threads and I'll tell you why they're cancer.
McFucking kill yourself.
>>
>>26361235
Monster Hunter is realistic you faggot.
It's in a world with lessened gravity and higher oxygen content.
Elder Dragons are the exception, though.
>>
>>26362224
Still the cutest starter,
>>
>>26361278
It's likely based on Bobbit worms, which would traditionally be Bugs in pokemon. I don't see the problem.
>>
IDK man, the series was conceptualized by an autistic biology fetishist, so I just think that fleshing the fuck out of them to point of its being a science is the next logical step you had no target audience
>>
>>26364888
I always thought that it goes from being a herring to a king-of-herring (the largest kind of oarfish), but it might just be that Oarfish fry look plain. On the other hand, I really doubt they'll ever refer to fish fry, crab larvae, or any other type of zooplankton because nobody ever does. Hell, most people don't even know they exist.
