As you can see, Sugimori's lines aren''t as sharp or clean, and his coloring is way more dull as compared to Ohmura who's coloring is vibrant and lush with very clean, sharp lines.
Now take a look at the art for the new Gen 7 Pokemon and it is painfully clear that it is Ohmura's art. Ohmura has finally taken over.
Sugimori barely made it through the XY design process without having others finish his designs when he couldn't. Game Freak has been giving Ohmura more and more design control as of late, and now with Gen 7, Ohmura is doing the official Pokemon art.

Yeah there is a definite art style shift, but I can't tell if it's Ohmura or if Sugi just changed his style a bit. The line art looks like Ohmura but the shading still looks like Sugi.

Dang, I'm gonna miss Sugimori's work. Ohmura's stuff is pretty good, but there's something Sugimori's got that Sugimori's got.

Now that I'm seeing this in a higher res... Yeah, you might be right. Those are definitely not Sugi lines. There's even variable widths (the body's outline is thicker than the inner details), which I don't ever recall him doing, at least not this noticeably.
I guess I don't care, as long as the designs are good? And isn't there somewhere where the art credits for official art are listed? Would be nice to know either way for sure.

Ohmura is a very competent artist, I remember people being blown away at all the ORAS character art. Ohmura's coloring is simple but very effective, not unlike Takehito Harada, so GF's choice in replacing Sugi wasn't an ill advised one.
Kind of feel bad for Sugi but chances are he's glad he can retire.

That shading is definitely Ohmura's. Sugi doesn't generally do those small light splotches and dots that we see on all three Alola Starters.

I'm going to miss Sugimori's "sketchy" artstyle but Ohmura had done a good job so far, so the loss doesn't hurt that much.

Does this matter overall or is it something only drawfags care about? Will it affect SM in any way?
If I had the choice I would pick Sugimori because he is OG but if nobody mentioned it I wouldn't have noticed it.
