Westeros region

Hoenn and Sinnoh were the best to go back and explore.

In terms of the region pacing itself.

The early game is terrible. Its really fucking shitty in Diamond and Peal, but its tolerable in Platinum.
The end game is amazing however. Comfiest cities.
In the end Platinum is just under the best games.

At this point, I don't even think it's nostalgia. Journeying in Sinnoh was really the peak of the series for me. Didn't feel this way about Hoenn or Johto.

Like, everything about the placement in Sinnoh made sense. Everything is where it should be. You don't get dumb snowstorms or deserts out of nowhere. The entire region extends from Mt. Coronet and feels cohesive.

Sinnoh was about 8/10 for the actual, physical region. 7/10 for Pokemon, and 9/10 for music.

Diamond and Pearl are imo the worst main Pokemon games, though depending on the standards we'd judge such a contest by, Red and Blue might knock them to 2nd place.

Text speed was slow, even set to "fast."

Surfing was painfully slow.

Before Platinum expanded the regional dex, the Pokemon selection was the most limited since RBY. Some types like Fire only had two fully-evolved Pokemon, while many of the better Pokemon were locked behind the horrible time sink/RNG-fest of Honey Trees... taking everything un-fun about Headbutting trees in Johto and combining it with the worst part about growing berries.

Growing berries in gen 4 is just as much of a time commitment as Farmville, just like gen 3.

Constantly having to click to speed up battles and running from battles.

Probably other stuff that Platinum totally addressed because Platinum was really good.

Johto was the comfiest, but Sinnoh was my favorite. Johto is a close runner up, though.

Pokemon variety was an issue though this is not so evident in Platinum. Other than that some new Pokemon got shit movesets (looking at you Luxray) but overall Sinnoh was great. Unlike many I rather liked a number of the new evolution mons this gen introduced, and I still hold gen 4 as the greatest to date, featuring Platinum, HG/SS, and great spin-offs on top of it all with Explorers of Sky and the Ranger series (though I still hold the GC RPGs as the best spin-offs).

This desu, don't forget just the gym leaders teams (who the hell uses starters, or mons not of their type Flint Volkner I'm looking at you) and level curve, and cemented the repetitive story from gen 3 and then in 6.

How Platinum changed the story slightly was pretty good and 2nd best postgame facility
