Hawaii has ice caves like many volcanic regions, although I'm fairly sure they are under threat and may not be around for many years/decades longer. Maybe they could make a plot point out of that?

Considering that Sinnoh was a cold region and had even less Ice-types than Hoenn in DP, I'd say anything could happen. I'm kind of expecting Popplio to end up as an Ice-type.

Didn't stop Kalos from having random snow. I don't think they care about making a realistic region anymore, it's just a hubworld nowadays
