Water routes are shit. We all hated them in RSE because surfing was slow and the encounter rate was ungodly high, and I don't know about everyone else but actually managed to get lost on the way to Sootopolis the first time.

They could've come up with any manner of excuse to change the routes in RSE -- there are more mini-islands because of Groudon or just because, they're bridges instead because retcon, whatever.

Not true, it was 1/255, as low as it goes. The problem was that unlike land routes, every single tile you could move on was a possible encounter, so it seemed like it was ridiculous.
They were still shit though.
