There was never an official definition set saying that new pokemon = new gen.

If SM can battle and trade with XY
Has the same models and move animations as XY
Has same UI as XY
Heavily features Zygarde like BW2 with Kyurem and Platinum with Giratina

Then it's perfectly acceptable to call it a Gen 6 game. New Pokemon mid-gen is no different from new abilties or moves mid-gen.

If GameFreak ever made a new game with new graphics, new UI, new Pokémon, new move animations, new battle mechanics, new moves/items/abilities/, basically every single goalpost you fags has set up, but started out with a "remake", it would still be considered a new generation. Even if not by YOU, it would still be considered a new generation.

Almost literally every Pokémon that isn't in the regional dex of a new game uses the the sprites from the last game where it was. BW even fucked this up even more by completely ignoring 90% of all the new sprites that were made for HGSS. Almost all Gen 1-4 Pokémon use their DPPt sprites in BW sprite. Some are colour-corrected, but most are exactly the same.
