Do the math and you'll find that in the safari zone there is never any reason to NOT throw a ball, in any generation. Long story short, since bait lowers the catch rate and rocks increase the run chance, neither actually improve your chances of catching it before it flees enough to justify wasting a turn on not using a ball.

Shinies in the safari zone just make me want to use Repels and grab the items inside, and then never come back. In the age of GTS, there's no point in bothering with those mechanics.

This would suck really bad if this happened. I mean, like I have been recently playing red and Chansey is easily the hardest pokemon to catch in the game before cerulean cave.

Like 2-4% encounter rate and 0% chance of safari ball capture before throwing a rock. Not sure of it's run away rate after a rock but from my experience you are only going to get 1-2 balls off after throwing one with my experience with tauros in red.

Thing is baiting it would make it even harder to catch and you would always have to make it positive catch rate by throwing a rock meaning you bait it you have to throw two rocks for chansey.

Good thing these odds are ridiculously low due to it's initial encounter rate but that would suck so honestly the best option you can do is just take a picture of it to admire the memories of it because chansey's are you aren't going to catch it.

Reasons to use a master ball:

Shiny pokemon that has explosion, when you have no mon with Damp
Shiny legendary that has used all of it's PP and is one turn from killing itself with Struggle
Shiny that knows Take Down, AND is within fainting range from recoil

There is no other reason to use them. Shiny Abra/Ralts, quick ball is a 100% catch rate. Using them on any old legendary is a waste. If i had masterballed every shiny legendary i've seen, i'd have 0 master balls for this Regirock i'm going for
