Well, it sort of has to for type match-ups to make sense.

The game's description of Aqua Tail:

There's no actual water involved, so there's no reason beyond gameplay that a Fire-type should take extra damage from it.

Hence why the anime has the Pokemon form whirlpools around their tails when they use it.

The anime's energy stuff makes sense. Pokemon aren't animals, they're monsters (hence the name Pocket Monsters) with supernatural powers. And with some Pokemon (like Lucario being able to use Bone Rush despite not wielding a bone), it's the only logical explanation.

Compared to some of the other shit Pokemon can do, forming make-shift weapons/body parts out of energy is pretty mundane.

so the only thing stopping a possible crabhammer mew is how transform works on smeargle. their smeargle are both level 16 but i cant remember if they have a unused sketch, or if mew would just copy whatever random move they have.

Can't this also be done in Gen 4 by using the Rage Glitch?

1. Get a Smeargle and make it Sketch Rage and Crabhammer

2. Teach Mew Transform

3. Enter a Double Battle with Mew and Smeargle

4. Have Mew Transform into Smeargle and use rage

5. Once it says "rage is building", win the battle

6. Mew will now have Smeargle's moveset, and therefore Crabhammer.

Not only that, but since Sketch is very versatile, that means Mew really can learn any move, since you just need to replace Crabhammer with a desired move and make Smeargle Sketch it!
