While Greninja's being so pointy kind of bothers me, my biggest gripe with its design is how part of its skin gets that disgusting cream color for absolutely no reason (the pink in Greninja's eyes and tongue already replaced the yellow from Froakie and Frogadier's eyes, there was no reason to keep the yellowish hue).

One of the ways you could vote was via the data broadcast system for the anime, though voting there required dicking around with an alphabetically ordered list of all Pokemon. While it did have a search function, lots of people clearly just chose something from the top of the list. The tongue is very distinctive and makes Greninja stand out honestly, if it was a bubble scarf it would be too basic and forgettable. Greninja's design was very well thought and clearly did pay off.
