After the Cerulean Gym, Misty pretty much bombs all the rest of her battles in Kanto and constantly relies on Psyduck to save herself. In Orange Islands the only time she battles is in that Golduck episode. The whole point is Dawn was an action heroine, she loved to battle, she did things outside of Contests, and she was confident/brave similar to Ash. Most of her losses come from early in the saga when she was inexperienced and just starting out.
