Here's the thing we really need to realize about the Zodiac theory, you don't focus on the base form of the Fire starters, you focus on the final evolution. Those are what really make them feel like they are based on the Zodiac animals (aside from possibly Typhlosion). A red panda or raccoon doesn't fit with the Zodiac and it definitely couldn't evolve into a tiger.

Also another thing to point out about the artwork in general is the fact the line art isn't thick enough to be Sugimori's style. Go and take a close look at any of his Pokemon designs, you will see that the lineart is thick and also a bit messy. It isn't perfect lines and curves. That right there is one way to realize these are fake, and is a fantastic way to debunk other fakes.

The shading is off. There are areas on the fire and water starter that is shaded that shouldn't be based on the light source. The white dot highlights don't correspond with where the sun is pointing on some areas. Majority of the fire starter is drawn with colored lines. Water starters eye doesn't fit the proportions of it's head. The grass starter is just plain ugly.

"Fire Mouse Pokemon" is a mistranslation. The japanese name is "Fire Nezumi", which is a jap term for any sort of small furry mammal, which includes mice but also a ton of other things that are way more similar to Cyndaquil than mice are, like echidnas and hedgehogs.

And foxes are in no way dogs. They share a family, but that's not a very close relation. A fox is only slightly closer to a dog than a bear is. Also, to clear up a common misconception I see here often, foxes are NOT canines like wolves. They are canids. There is a difference.

The main problem with these is that the thing on the left doesn't look like a grass type at all. All the other grass type starters (and most grass types in general) have some part of their body that is a plant. Bulbasaur has the bulb, Turtwig has the sapling, Chespin has the "hat", and Chikorita, Treecko, and Snivy have leaves. That thing is just a yellow ball, although maybe it's green and the image is just off-colour. If you hadn't told me it's a grass type I would have though it was ground.

The fire type has a similar problem as well, with no relation to fire other than being red, although to be fair some of the fire type starters (namely Tepig, Torchic, and Fennekin) are the same).

3. Another water gator? No way. They would never do this. INB4 Turtwig and Squirtle being turtles, they are of different types. Two water gators as starters wouldn't fly. The shading and white highlights aren't in the correct places and the proportion of it's eyes don't fit.

The only similarity between that and sceptile is that they're upright reptilian creatures. The headcrest is to the sides of Sceptile's head just over the eyes, similar to the ridges many geckos and other lizards have over their eyes, only greatly exaggerated, rather than in the center of the head like Dilophosaurus.

The stance, body, and general headshape are also different. Plus, dilphosaurus are not known for climbing on walls like a gecko.

The Japanese word for mouse is used as the English rodent. It isn't exclusively used to mice and rats. Bidoof isn't based on a mouse but it's a Mouse Pokémon. Same with Pikachu, Raichu, Sandshrew, and Sandslash.

Foxes being used in place of dogs works in a similar way in that it's close enough. Gamefreak clearly doesn't care about following scientific taxonomy closely because it's literally a game. They wanted a wizard starter so they chose a fox over a dog because foxes are magical creatures in their own folklore.

So until new starters are revealed and the fire starter doesn't fit, the zodiac theory is sound.

Also if the fire starter really is a cat (not a tiger), it still holds because it is part of zodiac stories.
