You see it is a triangle with Kyurem, Reshiram and Zekrom colors. The inside of a triangle is empty, and the Yellow crystal goes in to it to activate the fusion effect.

The Yellow crystal is the fusion energy, and the triangle is the 'key' of Zekrom, Reshiram and Kyurem.

Basically, the player will collect those triangles with which he can fuse his Pokemon. The Yellow crystal is given only to trainers with experience, or that share a very deep bond with 2 or more of his Pokemon. If the trainer shares deep bonds with let's say a Golduck and a Heracross, he will get a triangle with their colors, given to them in a mysterious way from the Sun's rays and the Moon's reflection.
