Have anyone here ever thought about what Pokemon will look like in 10 to 15 years? Imagine Pokemon's tenth generation.

X/Y added a comparatively small amount of pokemon (alongside other new features like megas). Can we assume that future pokemon games will have fewer new pocket monsters?

Can you really "catch them all" after we hit 1000+ Pokemon species?

What about the possibility of a 'reboot' of Pokemon? Shedding the majority of species and keeping fan favorites (can't get rid of the chu and the poliwhirl), in a spectacular re-genesis of the franchise?

Thoughts, /vp/?

Pic related is what I found searching "pokemon future" on Google.

>>25983463
out of all the pokemon you could have picked as a fan favorite example alongside Pikachu... you pick Poliwhirl?
>>
>>25983484
Anyone else remember how forced Poliwhirl was in gen 1? The kid rumor was that it was because it had the Sega dreamcast logo.
>>
>>25983484
It's the creator's favorite, to be fair.
And for a long time, it was a fan favorite too.
>>
>>25983506
It was reds first pokemon in the manga.
>>

>Pokemon is only named after colors meme

Uhhh...
>>
>>25983463
I would hate that. I don't like the popular Pokemon. Blaziken, charizard, lucario, gardevoir, I hate all 4
>>
>>25983463
yup you can catch them all with 1000+ pokemon
I managed to fill my Kalos pokedex up in 2-3 weeks so I don't see a problem there
the only things that are not going to work out forever are the ideas
it will become really hard getting new ideas for the next Pokemon games
>time and space?
already done
>water and fire/land?
yup
>sun and moon?
done
there's not much more to make there
finding new designs for pokemon will also get a lot harder after a while
I give pokemon 10-15 years maybe 20 if they don't mess up
>>
>>25983463

There would be massive fallout if they cut a lot of the pokemon. Everything is someone's favorite.

Even Slakoth.

Though I would be totally happy if they did another Red/Green remake. Just the first games, remade with the most modern graphics. Maybe bring back a few much loved gimmicks like pokemon following you and trainer customization, but strictly Kanto, strictly the original 151. Maybe megas, but no new pokemon. Can't trade any post gen-1 mons to the remakes, though you can battle and trade online with others playing the remakes.

Seriously, people are now on the DPP remake train since Hoenn got them, but I would rather see red and green remade again before DPP remakes.
>>
>>25983463
To be completely honest OP, I can't see this franchise lasting another 15 years, in spite of how popular it is now. I do think that they'll hit 1,000 species just to hit that milestone before the last generation / hard reboot occurs.

But you do kind of angle at a certain interesting question. Aside from adding more monsters, what else is there really to add to the current gameplay, aside from completely revamping it?

Well I wouldn't say catching 1000 pokemon is impossible, but it does pose a problem to future games in terms game-plot scaling. The games are designed to put in specific monsters for unique uses throughout the game. You could easily have a huge amount of species available early or mid-game, but then the game abandons its atmosphere and feeling. Another way would be to have a metric shitton of pokemon available for capture in post-game, to fill up the dex.

Personally, I would love to see a multi-version generation as opposed to the dual-version standard. I believe the original plan was to have 7 versions in Gen I, as in seven colors of the rainbow?
>>
>>25983463
That's why megas are the way to go from here.

It was really a brilliant endgame strategy for them. Now they can add in new designs without bloating the roster.
I think this is the first time they started thinking long term, especially after the blunder that was Gen 5.

Not saying Gen 5 was bad, but it introduced way too many pokemon for the long term viability of the franchise. It was a mistake.

They literally can't keep this pace forever. Even ignoring the need for more ideas, the roster can only expand so much more.

its a "parody/comic" made by the casualest of casuals, don't expect much.
>>
>>25983744
OP here, I like this post.

Megas were certainly a good feature that revitalized the series and expanded the game play without continuously adding more Pokemon.

The only problem I see with this is an eventual ton of mega mons. This is assuming that GF won't add new useful species and doesn't abandon cross-gen evols.

(the poliwhirl reference was just to generate guaranteed shitposter bumps)

If that's what you want to call it I guess
Started with yellow, and got the rest of gen 1 and all of gen 2 before getting RS. but yes I did get yellow after gen 2 was already released.

OP, again. Just let it go, brother.
>>
>>25983777
wtf I only meant to quote that last one.

Anyways, difficulty-wise, I don't see a problem with 1000+ mons, specially considering online trading.

>considering online trading.

Good to consider. I filled up pages of my pokedex in X/Y through wonder trades alone. Expansion of online features could potentially keep the series afloat.
>>
>>25983719
What if Game Freak started making the games in each pair set in two different regions with different Pokémon available?
>>
A large amount of something should only serve one purpose: variety. They could make several thousand and it'd be fine. As for being able to have all of them, well, for variety's sake, they would have to make it possible, but to expect people to hoard them, I am unsure if that was ever their intention. You certainly don't NEED all of them. They made something for people that DO like to collect them. I think they'll do it, but they don't really have it in mind for you to actually get all of them, just to choose the ones you like best. Since that differs for everyone, they have to make them all available. They don't really expect you to ACTUALLY get them all.
>>
>>25983948
The problem is that any new features they want to do scale proportionally with each added mon.

If they want to do the next Pokemon Amie, they need to make animations for 1000+ pokemon.
How well will that work when we hit 1500? What about 2000?

Eventually we'll reach a point where design becomes impractical. The switch to 3D was inevitable to avoid this, but it won't hold it off forever.
>>
>>25984085
It could work and would encourage trading. Trading is of course one of the foundational tenets of Pokemon. It could have all sorts of unique functions, such as trading a specific mon to the other version to easily get through a part of the game.

I would like to see a more 'adult' oriented Pokemon game. Pokemon has really solid, complex mechanics but I hate that it's aimed directly at 10 year-olds that could never appreciate them.

A reboot of the Gen 1 games with a far more complex story, more graphic violence, more challenging fights and overall less cutesyness would be pretty cool IMO.
>>
>>25984524
Why not a hard-mode necessitating actual strategy, anon?

Leave the excessive violence and adult themes to shitty rom hacks.
>>
>>25984524
One of the reasons I play pokémon is because it isn't trying to be 'edgy'. 'Adult' themes really do not fit the franchise.
>>
>>25985345

For me, Pokemon origins is the perfect fit in terms of violence (maybe a little too much...but mostly, it fits).

Believeinb the anime is how these monsters are supposed to fight is over the top ridiculous
>>
>>25985345
Perhaps not, but I will accept a non-plot either. My stance has always been simply for coherence, but pokemon's premise alone makes that impossible.
>>
>>25985440
*will not accept a non-plot

Tbh, pokemon games haven't been advancing as quick as others have eg gta. But gen 6 was a vast improvement which they need to keep doing to keep ahead of the curve. Needs to be more pioneering instead of a monopoly that controls an entire genre

Adult-oriented violence vs. cute and kid friendly is a false dichotomy imo.

A proper remake of Gen I would be about cloning), industrial pollution's effects on the environment, and the balance of nature and ecology. It could be deep, but also have a bit of a Shonen feel to it.
>>
>>25985652

Not really, there are thousands of duality themes in existence and it doesn't even have to follow that rule either.

People would have am utter hissy fit like they did for FE Fates.

Funny way to say they were readily, spreading-their-buttcheeks-open, accepting.

That assumes that there won't be significant advances in modeling and animating technology.

No amount of technology will reduce the need for skilled modelers and animators. There is no modular way to animate 2,000 pokemon, and it would look like shit if you did.

That's like saying technology will make painters obsolete. There are some things only a human can do well, and art is one of them.
