Design-wise Mega-Heracross looks worse than regular Heracross (although M-Heracross has grown on me a little since its reveal). And it's faster, doesn't take up the mega slot and is able to hold an item. While Mega-Heracross has much higher attack and better bulk, it will still get OHKO'd by pretty much any Flying-type move.

I think it would look a ton better if they curled up it's 'nose' more like an actual beetle horn and got rid of the grump mouth.

Also I can't help but feel skill link contributes to not liking it as much, since for the most part you never get to see the awesome beetle cannon arms animation when it uses megahorn or something. Probably would have accepted better with no guard or something.

Mega Heracross is a great mega evolution, and personally, I do like using it.
80/115 physical defence with fighting resistance actually lets it 1v1 Mega Lopunny: 252 Atk Mega Lopunny Return vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Mega Heracross: 153-181 (50.6 - 59.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Also, it obviously takes on +2 Bisharp by resisting sucker. Those are pretty valuable niches. Yeah, sure, it loses to talonflame. If you pair it with a bulky water, or a sand core, you can overcome this weakness.

Being extremely powerful against stall is great (you'll see more if Hoopa-U gets banned), being able to take neutral physical hits due to natural bulk is great, and also vs offence you can use it to force in and really wear down lando-t for something else to sweep.

The fact that people don't use it that much is purely their own fault, OP.
