Mega Steelix's design is great, but Gamefreak dropped the fucking ball with it and unless they decide to throw it a bone with some recovery moves or change its Mega ability it's pretty much done, Steelix will not be improved further than this.

While I'll agree that Mega-Metagross is not my image of what Metagross does or is supposed to be. The idea itself that megas are drastically different from their non-mega forms and actually have different strengths and weaknesses is probably the most appealing part of the whole mega concept. I wish more megas would be like that. For example, you don't pick M-Metagross for trick room team over the normal one. And also normal metagross is better for a support set. M-Metagross is an all out attacker. That's pretty cool for me.

You're contradicting yourself. If they simply expand or exaggerate an existing feature THEN they are like normal evolutions. That's what most normal evos do, with the exception of some branch evolutions or special trade evolutions. Giving the mega different traits other than "buffing the stats/making it bigger" is how megas should be in my eyes for most mons. If you needed to just buff the already strong stats and nothing else then give it a normal evolution instead.

And megagross is fucking brilliant. All of its stages are two of the previous stage combined, but since megagross isn't a full evolution, it's not two metagross, it's metagross + its previous stages, with a metang underside and beldums on its back. This gives him his magnetic flight back, hence the speed boost.
