I'm biased, but I've regularly enjoyed it more than the majority of the seasonal shows from the past year and a half. Whether that means the Pokémon anime is good or the quality of anime lately has been going down the shitter I can't say, but at least in terms of animation, Pokémon XY is easily above average despite constantly running.

How is any of this wrong? Both did contests, May and Ash/ Dawn and Ash was the same thing with some minor differences. Very good friends that fights sometimes and battles sometimes etc. The foundation is the same. And sure aside from the TP arch which was like 4 episodes and the grand festival it was mostly just fillers between the 7th and 8th gym.

These are more personal opinions but TF is looking to be way better than that. The TF set up has been miles better than the TG set up.

And most of the fillers where the same thing. I like fillers that goes out of their way to make a fun and interesting episode instead of using formula. Like the mirror world episode for an example.

The Contests arcs played out completely differently in both series. What does it matter? Its like saying Ash's Gym goal has been rehashed 6 times over. Most of the tripokalon's are psuedo appeal rounds from Contests too, just with the trainer taking part.

Also the Ash/May and Ash/Dawn dynamics were very different from one another. You don't seem to remember them well.

Team Galactic got 9 episodes in DP, along with 5 Hunter J episodes that coincided with each other. It was very well done and action packed. So far Team Flare has been good, but we have to wait to see how it ends.

DP's fillers were mostly about battling, there was far less "helping a random trainer" than in past sagas. Go watch the Spiritomb filler in DP, it was amazing. The worst DP fillers were Piplup centered.

In the big picture, yes there were. Sure, you can argue for some small picture but the foundation is almost exactly the same. I literally watched DP for the last 3 months. I remember fully well.

Team Galactic episode where literally done the same as in the games. Sure, it worked as a good set up but not much more. It was not very exciting at all. Hunter J was great and spiced things up a lot. Team Galactic and their episodes is what I have a problem with. The TF episode is nothing like the games and even has a side series to set them up. You don't know what will happen next and the villains like Lysandre, Malva, TF girls etc are much better written than in the games and the the villains in the Team Galactic arch. They where just typical villain. And Alan as an anti-hero is easily Hunter J tier.

And no, most wasn't battling. Most where the generic CotD like it has always been. 2 min of the episode dedicated to battling does not count.

In the original, Korrina is giving commands as kanji characters flash on the screen, and at one point one of them comes on screen as she's doing a high kick.

In the dub, they removed the kanji characters, but didn't substitute anything in for them. As a result, the audience gets a view of her spats during a high kick.

The COTD's in DP are where the battles were from. Ash and Dawn were always battling other trainers in DP, and there were a ton of recurring characters and rivals. DP also had several mini-arcs like the tag battle tournament, summer camp, Twinleaf festival, Lyra arc, etc that went on for multiple episodes.

The Gym leaders in DP got the most amount of episodes and screentime. Dawn's Contest arc got a tremendous amount of screentime.

That one was forgettable, but the Quilladin episode was enraging because once again we are treated with an Eevee who still hasn't learned to grow a spine. A fucking baby bat grew balls faster than her. This would be my feelings every time Charizard is sent out and fuck things up for Ash.

Writing was just all over the place, poorly trying to juggle Puni-chan's capture by TR and the bullshit between Quilladin, Chespin, and Pancham. Not to mention it was at the wake of the one of the best first episodes of the season. All the cards were stacked against it.

The rivalry was very well written. Both fore Dawn and especially for Ash. The double battle tournament was a great arch to set up future rivals for an example. I can go on and on about what was great. And I can do the exact same thing with XY I just did with DP and break it down to what I didn't like etc.

But all in all XY is a better series in most aspects. But it completely depends on what you like I guess. But saying it's "in the middle" is simple not true.
