Being kicked out was kind of a good thing. On a dedicated board it was possible to build a culture, which probably wouldn't be possible among the endless streams of butthurt on /co/.
The thing is that mlp itself is a thing that drives tumblrites and normalfags away, and the board culture also drives out the more autistic "hugbox" types.
Probably just my shit opinion, but /mlp/ and /trash/ are some of the boards that feel the closest to what older 4chan was like.
