Is it possible to freeze Ice-type Pokemon in Gen I? Bulbapedo says it was possible before IV, but I've hit this fucking Articuno with at least 80 Ice Beams so far and it's just not freezing. In that time I've missed (1/256 chance) three times, and Articuno has frozen me with ITS Ice Beam five times.

yes of course it's possible
calculator might be linked to another stat though.

oh wait
>freezing ice-type pokes
can you poison poison type

I can't recall a single time in my life where I've seen an Ice type get frozen. Bulba is full of shit.

In Gen I/II/III you could poison Poison-types, burn Fire-types, and (supposedly) freeze Ice-types.
Better yet, it's impossibe to hit Articuno with Pokeballs without giving it a status effect even if its HP is whittled down to almost nothing.

This is just the gen 1 equivalent of the ball not shaking. You can still catch it at this rate.

You could never poison Poison types or burn Fire types.

Well apparently I was wrong; Tri Attack is a really odd case that used to be able to freeze Ice types and burn Fire types.
It didn't have its secondary effect in gen I though so I think freezing Ice types is still impossible in that

Huh, never knew that. So Gen I Tri Attack is basically Strength with less PP.
