I just beat Salamence in SMD, and it turns out he was level 50? I don't think the boss itself was overwhelming, but the fact I can now take a level 50 seems like it would break the game.

It seems really strange they made this a mission you have to beat to advance the plot too.

SMD 's story isn't generally agreed to be good or bad. I've seen a lot of people say it's great and a lot of people say it's awful. However, the main complaints I've seen are:

I see the complaint here as far as comparisons to other MD games go. I didn't mind it though, I thought the first half of the game was still really charming, like your partner leaving a note for you saying he can't play today and he has to clean the house as punishment. Really the tutorial is tied in with the story, so it gets a pass in my book.

I personally loved the ending (as much as I can love having my heart broken that is) because I'm able to disregard some of the things that are left kind of fuzzy. I don't know, the MD world feels very real to me at times, and sometimes life doesn't make total sense. That said, I still agree to an extent that it's pretty confusing and comes at the last minute.

Can't agree more. Postgame was rushed as fuck. I feel that the buildup to getting your partner back is actually pretty good, doing solo dungeons and what not, plus the music was great (Great Canyon arrangement, Mystical Jungle capturing the feeling of your objective perfectly), but ultimately the final reunion is underwhelming as fuck. You'd think it would be more emotional for at least one of them, but instead neither of them are really choked up like they should be.

Yeah, postgame story needed to be either longer. Or, there should just be more variety in partner dialogue, like it was talked about in the last thread, and a little here.

I remember thinking he was pretty hard during the first couple of turns only to realize that blast seeds always do 100 damage. I mean holy shit why are blast seeds so OP in this game? Well, early on, for the most part, but I still got lucky and killed the last boss with my last blast seed.

And I thought it was pretty dumb too, how you could take a level 50 with you. Did anyone else only use Pokemon near you and your partner's levels? It just didn't feel right to me using such high leveled Pokemon. it kind of breaks my 'immersion'

You and the others go back in time with Celebi to actually see all that stuff that happened in the past, where there's a few dungeons. You get separated from your partner part the way through where you meet Mew for a bit while the partner sees the human (though you personally never see the human.) You learn about the whole past incarnation stuff there and how the partner's a reincarnation of mew before being whisked back to the present to deal with Dark Matter. Would help deal with the pacing issues towards the end of the game and allow for more showing rather than just telling.

Yes. There's a lot of supposedly superior moves, but they often have less PP than the basic moves, which often really just work as well.

For example, Take Down in the main series is (mostly) an upgrade to Tackle. In Explorers, though, it has both less PP and less base power, in addition to recoil.

I think I remember seeing some anons mention that Kecleons spawn at the stairs if you steal. I once accidentally stole from one when I walked out of a shop forgetting I had an item, I had the confused status and I don't think the prompt to buy appeared. They're still at double speed and they're still powerful. If I remember correctly, you can have a team mate wait at the stairs, and sacrifice another by getting them to steal, then you can swap and exit, but you will need reviver seeds to deal with the ones that spawn near the stairs. I think that's how it works. But the punishment of stealing when unprepared in just as bad as past games, death from an angry horde.

It's designed so that you have the options of bulldozing a quest with an overpowered mon if you're having trouble, but can't steamroll the entire game with Salamence. Ralts gets +2PP to all moves, more damage dealt to darks with psychic, and hp restoration when hit by ghost/dark moves, but those are for Gardevoir and Gallade's swap items, respectively.
