I liked BW, but the sequel was boring.

I think less is more though, gen 1 and 2 had a better sense of adventure because of how subdued and in the background the main story was.

I like pieces from each generation.

Your father being a gym leader was pretty cool. Also having two villain teams fight each other was sweet, although it would have been cool to see more battles than just Mt Chimney's

X/Y actually had some interesting story elements, like the Lucario tower and the Professor's increased involvement. And say what you will about ORAS, but the Delta episode is one of the first "fully-fledged" post-game storylines. Granted, future attempts will need better writing, and ideally you want to coincide the new storyline with new areas in the region to explore to keep the backtracking to a minimum.

While I get where you're coming from, Blue was pretty involved in Generation 1. I don't think they actually could make a Champion that sits back and doesn't appear until it's his/her time to fight. That'd be waaaay boring and we wouldn't care about him at all.

It's definitely worth picking up. It adds depth to the characters, as much as a Pokemon game can do anyways. I find the guild members far less annoying than before, especially Bidoof, who I came to like.

This. I don't want a story told to me, I want to be a part of an adventure. I hate feeling like an unimportant background character in the game I'm playing. In recent games it seems like the cast of characters are just using you to win battles so the plot can be progressed. You never have any say in what you do so it never feels like it's your story.

In this regard, Gens 1 and 2 have the best stories by virtue of not making them the most important aspect of the game.

Main series, either BW or BW2. They win by default though because they actually put some effort into it. It wasn't a great story, but it was good enough.

If we're including spinoffs though, Explorers of Space/Time/Sky hands down. That is a legitimately good game and the creative team behind PMD should take over for the main series.
