Eevee. There isn't a single member of the Eevee line (family?) I dislike the design of. Pikachu, however, is ugly (though some art makes it look great), and while loads of Pokemon have equivalents for each region, Pikaclones are particularly egregious, and some are ugly as shit even if some are OK.

I guess what it comes down to is Pikachu is unique enough being a yellow mouse with a fucked up tail but it's still a very safe choice. It's not "too realistic" like with the raticate line being fucked up rat teeth or "too nonsensical" like with basically any other elemental pokemon that usually has the creature be on fire or some shit.

I agree that Pikachu is the way it is and you could have probably picked a couple other Pokemon (within reason) but the stupid yellow mouse was probably always within the top 10% of Pokemon that could be used as a mascot.
