Sky Battles are, without a doubt, the single-stupidest thing in Gen 6.

No, the stupidest thing about Gen 6 is that the perfectly good c-pad controls are ruined by mandatory bullshit such as roller skates and sneaking. Sky Battles are without a doubt up there, but not even close to the wasted circle pad.

Would the Sky Battle gliding animations be better if the camera panned around and made it seem like they were actually moving in circles around each other instead of just sort of hovering?

It didn't ruin jack shit. You had the option to play them and you can simply say no. It's just faulty in what it tries to achieve, but in no way was it negatively affecting gen 6 compared to other drastic flaws.
