I personally don't hate them, in fact, it's my second favorite trio behind the Sinnoh Lake Sprites, but I think /vp/ hates the genies because they're Gen 5

As a standalone legendary, thundurus or tornadus would have been cool, but 3 pallete swaps? It just looks dumb and lazy.

Gamefreak even realised this themselves and tried to correct it with the therian forms, which only served to make them even more annoying since the forms were amazing competatively and are now everywhere.

Had there only been one, it would have been far more likeable and likely not have been broken or even had a therian form at all.

I absolutely love Landorus' and Thunderus' Therian form designs. Thunderus' especially is top tier. I've debated using him as my ace in several playthroughs, even though I don't use legendaries, just by the design.

I don't play competitive. I hate their designs, normal or Therian, I personally think they all look terrible. I'm not usually 'that guy' but these are the only Pokemon that I honestly think do not look like Pokemon in the slightest.

most of the things i hate about them is kinda indirect.

gen 5 is THE GEN of unnecessary fluff. too many features were added that are extremely pointless.
musicals? pokestar studios? entra link? fuck that shit! no one gives a fuck.
by this point in the franchise no pokemon fan has friends who still play this game to make use of any of those "features".

and that gets me to the core problem of gen 5. too much attention added to quantity over quality.
there are so many pokemon in gen 5. and most of the good ones don't even appear until the very late stages of the game.
that leaves so many of them forgettable and even pointless. and that's where the genies come in.

Sinnoh had too many legendaries, but it wasn't that bad since the majority of them somehow tied into the whole lore thing they had going on. In Unova you just got random cancer genies and random my little ponies and an Opera singer and a robot bug. On a personal note, it doesn't help that outside of the 11th hour form changes to the samefags and my littlest pony in BW2 none of them looked good besides the Tao Trio and Genesect.
