The trashbag is a creature that happens to look like a trashbag through some chemical reaction. When it evolves it doesn't even look like an actual trashbag, they cleverly made it so it wears a bursted trashbag but the actual body is underneath. Vanilluxe isn't literally ice cream, it's icicles with snow on top of it. And I don't even like Vanilluxe that much, but that's STILL a better design than if they had literally just made it ice cream like this fakemon designer is literally making its body a bathtub.

Magnemite isn't just a magnet with a cartoon eye. It's a steel ball, some screws, and some magnets that happen to come attached together. It makes for a more creative looking fictional creature than if it were just a magnet with eyes on it. And the design works better because the whole thing looks like its mechanical instead of just some creature that randomly has a bath tub for a body.

If you want examples of GOOD designs that have objects homaged in them, look at Octillery. It's based on a tank, but they didn't literally make it a tank. Or Gogoat. They didn't make it a literal motorcycle, they incorporated motorcycle like aspects into it with its horns and how the player is able to ride it. That's clever and subtle. Fakemon artists seem to have trouble doing this.

This is all true, and I'm willing to admit that. Still, there's something about the design, from piplup on up that I just can't stand. Gen 4 in general was like that for me.
